When someone’s “religion” overrides the “rights” of someone else, then that is no longer a “freedom of religion” issue.
That’s how I look at it. Would you say this is a fair observation?
They can certainly take their “freedom of religion” to a job that is more suited for prayers five times a day. A production line is not one of them.
When hired I’m sure they were handed an employee handbook which clearly stated the companies policy for ALL employees on breaks and lunch hours. When excepting the job they are excepting the company policies.
If they didn’t like the conditions of employment they should not have taken the job.
If the time off at sunset isn’t in their present agreement, they are out of luck...
Religious freedom, like freedom of speech, has to do with protection from the goobermint, not meatpackers. They might be able to twist loose some labor relations BS and beat it to fit, though.
