Democrats just don't get it as Sarah Palin pounds 'em
Daily News ^ | Thursday, September 11th 2008 | Michael Goodwin

Posted on 09/10/2008 11:41:49 PM PDT by nickcarraway

The music is familiar, an old refrain best summed up as "The Long and Whining Road." Every four years, as the weather turns cooler, Democrats start crying that Republicans are playing dirty and that the American people are falling for the trick.

How stupid can the voters be? Why, they even like Gov. Moose.

But just wait till Big Media gets hold of Sarah Palin. The hick will be on a Swift boat to history.

The waiting is over. Tonight's the night. But if I were a betting man, I wouldn't wager the ranch that ABC's Charlie Gibson will expose Palin as the nincompoop, gun-toting, too-fertile tart Democrats say she is.

First of all, here's a bulletin: being pro-life and pro-gun doesn't automatically make her look stupid to most Americans. Second, she's no rookie at the politics/media game, as her record, convention speech and stump appearances prove.

Third, well, do we need a third reason to prove the Dems are way off course in expecting the media to destroy Palin? If anything, there is a backlash against ganging up on an underdog.

The line about insanity being a case of doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result applies to the Barack Obama camp. Underestimating Palin before her debut last week was a big mistake, but they're so sure they're right they're doing it again.

Someone said Obama has had a bad few days. Actually, he's had a bad few months. He peaked before Hillary Clinton got out of the race in June and, with a few exceptions, has stagnated or trended lower in most polls ever since.

Yet he might have had enough money and charisma to pull it off in a Democratic year against the admirable-but-beatable John McCain. The 72-year-old McCain knew as much, which is why he reached into his maverick bag and pulled out Palin.

Bingo. Palin has energized Republicans, attracted independent voters and white women to the McCain ticket and replaced Obama as the fresh face.

To say Dems haven't figured her out understates their cultural disconnect. They still haven't figured out why Ronald Reagan beat Walter Mondale and President Bush beat John Kerry.

And Obama is falling into the trap of whining that everything that goes against him is a "distraction." That's what he called his pastor, Jeremiah Wright, too. A distraction.

He makes a careless statement about putting "lipstick on a pig" a week after Palin made the lipstick joke heard 'round the world, and he wonders why everybody is picking on him.

It's very possible Palin will yet destruct by making some killer gaffe that shows she's not up to the job. Or maybe ABC will come up with a video of her talking in tongues or beating her children or something else that will make her an overnight disaster.

But just in case Santa Claus doesn't hand them the election, the Obama-bots ought to stop feeling sorry for themselves and start feeling the pain and hopes of ordinary Americans. Maybe then they'd understand the remarkable appeal of Sarah Palin.

Wonderful piece, and I loved this in particular:

Lol, very good article.

“First of all, here’s a bulletin: being pro-life and pro-gun doesn’t automatically make her look stupid to most Americans.”

Bump for morning.

Well they could move to Russia, Cuba, China, or Venzuela, and they would feel right at home. We need to bring back the old “America, Love it or Leave it” bumper stickers.

They can't understand Americans' lives. So all they have left is to hope their enemy destroys himself, since they can't win on the issues.

We should start a pool on how long until one of Sarah’s MSM interrogators ambushes her with the “you know, Governor Palin, Uzbekistan is an important ally in the War on Terror, can you name the Uzbeki Ambassador to the US?” type question. It may not be Charlie Gibson, but rest assured, it’s coming.

So true.

He reached into his

And pulled out

And there was much rejoicing.

Besides most Obama-bots do not know the North Pole is in Alaska. Let them send the letters anyway. :-D. This is one year Santa had a really big surprise for them.

I thought Obama WAS Santa- a look at his voting record confirms that he gives an awful lot of “Presents”.

My guess is that obviously Palin might flub a few foreign policy questions. So what? What governor is up to speed on all national security issues? Given that, as governor she is privy to a certain amount of national security info. When the debates happen I doubt the average voter will be impressed that Joe Biden knows more about the ins and outs of Washingtonian politics. And I doubt Gibson will try to trick her or ask her stupid questions like who is the high mucky muck of Lower Kaboomistan like they did with Dubya.

Barack mocked Middle America---people he said were left behind by the global economy, who cling bitterly to their Bibles, bigotries and guns.

And now we have in Gov Palin, the embodiment of a Second Amendment, Bible-believing, Middle America-----who is cleaning Obama's clocks just by showing up.

Obama's looking more and more like a short order cook in a greasy all-night diner, serving up leftover Biden stew.

The Dems still haven't figured out why Bush beat Kerry.

What are the details of Charlie Gibson’s interview on ABC of Gov. Palin tonight?
