It’s awful but I doubt Biden was embarrassed.

I find the fish one more disgusting than the pig one. Obama is a crass, crass man.

I despise Obama as much as anyone, but I would have to say that it is a bit of a stretch to say that Obama was calling Sarah Palin a pig.

That said, I think it it fair play considering that the liberals are twisting facts against Palin.

No, but this was an obvious reference to Palin’s convention speech.

Precisely!

It was not explicit, it was oblique.

there is absolutely no doubt as to what the audience thought he meant....I am not giving him a pass on that OR the fishy remarks afterwards.

Why Obama chose “pig” instead of a different analogy has to do with his Muslim faith.

As we were all reminded by the media the night of Governor Palin’s speech, all of these candidates have teams of speech writers working for them.

Nothing is just ad libbed, it is all planned out. Even the slight variation of different phrases is carefully worked on so that there is no gaffe made. That is why speech writers have a love-hate relationship with genuinely gifted speakers; the better and more confident the speaker, the more likely he will go off script. Bigger chance at a great ad lib, bigger chance of a horrid gaffe.

The line about “lipstick on a pig” was a crafted bit. It was preceded and followed by lines that traditionally say the same thing.

However, and this is a big however, this was an unbelievably insulting and enormously stupid thing to say.

The “lipstick on a Pit Bull” concept is firmly set in the minds of many people who are watching this race. It is wonderfully clear message from Governor Palin that she can be tough and ruthless while maintaining the trappings of a woman.

When Senator Obama make any mention of “lipstick on a ...”, he is, in a very essential way, calling attention back to Governor Palin. The way he ends that sentence is important.

If he says “Pit Bull”, he validates her statement.

If he says “Poodle”, he belittles her comment.

If he says “Bitch”, he gets himself in trouble with everyone.

But Senator Obama and his speech writers thought they would be clever. They thought that since there was an old statement “lipstick on a pig”, that they could feign innocence and slip a very obvious insult past the non-Harvard educated masses.

They were wrong. This may be a big story tomorrow, and if it is, we won't see a 2000 race, or even a 1972 race. We will see a 1984 race.

Biden would be as big a disaster as VP as Obama would be as Pres. He’d insult heads of state and wonder why they were angry.

“As a woman (and possibly an overly sensitive one right now with this Palin onslaught), this @sshole needs to pay dearly for this very miscalculated remark”

Drey you are not being overly sensitive. The Dems and Drive By’s have shown us their true nature since Palin was nominated. And it is both disgusting and shameful.

Hang in there. The Freepers won’t let this slide. I don’t think McCain will take this laying down. Sarah Palin is a tough but beautiful lady and this will backfire big time on BHO.

I would agree that Obama's audience thought the remark was personally directed at Palin.

this is starting to sound silly to me --- but it seems to be putting O'bama on the ropes

Remember when Al Gore was brought down a few pegs by lying about his dog's arthritis medication? This is the same thing. Gore can say and do the most bizarre, dangerous things and even win a Nobel Prize for some of them, but many people immediately caught that Gore was full of it on that one.

It's the stupid, idiotic stuff that will bring someone down, not the weighty policy issues. Especially when the policy is unfathomable like Campaign Finance.

OMG! These 2 sound like drunk Shriners at a convention. Can’t you just picture them in one of those little cars with Biden driving and Obama screaming?

Please do not use an apostrophe in Obama’s name.
It is an insult to the Irish around the world.
Thanks O’Connor

Earlier in the campaign, McCain said putting lipstick on a pig in reference to Hillary Thighness. At least he was right. LOL

If you doubt it was meant as an insult and reference to Palin, then listen to the audience’s reaction. They were laughing and cheering. They knew.

Just words? Just speeches?

And this guy would conduct foreign policy with “good judgment.”

Think about the double standard that is always applied— if for example McCain or Palin referred to Obama as the “dark horse” in the race when he is down in the polls- what do you think would be the reaction of the Obama team and the lefties? Would they just say it is an old saying or would they think it was a racial slur toward Obama? We all know what the reaction would be...if conservatives have to walk such a tight rope of word usage then it should also apply to the dims.
