For the women attending a campaign event in Lancaster County, Pa., Sarah Palin might as well be at the top of the Republican ticket.
"I like the way she's going to bring Washington down to earth," said Erin Gilsbach, 30, who drove from Allentown with her sister, husband and two daughters to hear the Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential nominee speak here Tuesday. "Everyone talks about it, but I get the feeling she's going to do it."
That's exactly what worries Democrats, who see women in Pennsylvania and other states who might have voted for New York Sen. Hillary Clinton turning to Palin - No. 2 on the Republican ticket led by Arizona Sen. John McCain.
"We haven't closed the deal in America, and we certainly haven't closed the deal in Pennsylvania," said Gov. Ed Rendell, a Democrat who stopped into Lancaster to campaign for Sen. Barack Obama Monday. "We have a lot of work to do."
For most women attending the event - many waited two hours in line to get into a field house at Franklin & Marshall College - Palin was a bigger draw than McCain. An estimated 10,000 people found parking wherever they could near the school, hoofing it with umbrellas in muggy weather to the rally.
The pre-rally chants for "Sarah, Sarah" were louder than "we want McCain." Palin was even introduced first. Women wore pink "Hot Chicks Vote Republican" buttons; one hoisted a McCain placard bearing a hand-scrawled message: "Guns, God, Lipstick."

I REALLY need that “Hot Chicks Vote Republican” shirt!
Amazing Indeed
I LIKE IT!!!
Go Sarah Go!
Love to hear about the excitement people are showing for Sarah.
“Guns, God, Lipstick.”
Oh I must get a bumper sticker with this on it ASAP!!
Especially after Obama’s remarks today.
Oh, please, RNC or those of you with the influence: Listen to us. Now that we've got your attention. Ditch the business as usual, enter the 21st century, give the next generations what's going to resonate with us and, and literally bring Washington down to earth.
Quit with the political games. Use some new millennium common sense.
Why can't I, as an American taxpayer in the cyber age, not specify where my tax dollars are going? It is so obviously wrong that y'all are wasting our hard-earned dollars on stuff that you like, instead of letting us give generously (as we have been proven capable of) to the many causes we would love to support.
I like it!
John & Sarah started the tour Friday AM, mere hours after McCain gave his acceptance speech and the convention ended. I heard there were overflow crowds of thousands in the midwest that day at two locations. The next morning I drove down to see them in Colorado Springs with an overflow crowd of 13,000. We then watched their plane take off for Albuquerque, and that evening I saw youtube videos from a New Mexico TV station of an indoor arena packed to the gills (6000 capacity?), with footage of perhaps 1000 hopeful people waiting in line outside for any unused tickets that might get turned in. That begs the question, how many more would have come but didn't because they heard there were no more tickets? And now we see this jampacked venue in PA with many people unable to get in.
WOW! This is great. I hope it only builds upwards from here as the election approaches.
Meanwhile, I heard that while our 13,000 crowd in the Springs wildly cheered the GOP ticket, Obama was talking to a crowd of 800 in Indiana.
According to my 11 year old daughter, Sarah means “princess” in Hebrew (her friend, Sara, told her that, so she looked it up.) After the speech last week, my daughter said to me, “Mom, it’s PRINCESS POWER!”
If she shows up to a public event here in W. Washington, we are going, even if I have to take her out of school for the day!
I was one. They ran out of tickets after the Palin VP acceptance speech. The Springs Fire Dept limited the crowd size.
as I understand it, she is coming...maybe on the 24th....its a prescheduled fund raiser but I’ll bet they’ll be a chance to hear and see both her and McCain...that is all I know, and hopefully , its all true.....LOL
