DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Barack Obama is promising to double funding for charter schools and replace inferior teachers, embracing education reform proposals normally more popular with Republican candidates.

The Democratic presidential nominee says both parties must work together to improve education, according to remarks prepared for delivery Tuesday at a suburban high school gymnasium. The pitch was an appeal to moderate voters in this presidential election swing state, where the fight over education reform has been the focus of a longtime partisan battle.

Obama campaigning in Ohio, promising money for charter schools . . . this is normally a conservative position, not one the Dems usually endorse. He's looking for votes here.

But he's NOT offering real school choice... what a fraud!

“Barack Obama is promising to double funding for charter schools and replace inferior teachers, embracing education reform proposals normally more popular with Republican candidates. “

He’s looking for votes, obviously. Governor Palin is too, she’s quoting from Reagan.

Finally, Conservatives get pandered to! I was feeling left out all season.

I'll work with all our nation's governors to hold all our charter schools accountable

Really now. Excuse me, but he doesn't know (or acknowledges) who the governor of Alaska is since he refers to her as the former mayor.

It appears to me that more and more that this guy is trying to morph into a conservative...or make us think that he is...

Obama campaign is in a melt down mode. NEA is not going to be happy, but then again, they know he is lying.

This is confusing...NOT. Obama himself just said that you can’t re-invent yourself as a candidate and yet he is trying to do just that. He is going to alienate his own left-wing supporters with his new “change that you can count on”

Obama is switching to positions held by McCain. His leftist supporters will have to console themselves with the belief that he really doesn’t mean it.

First it was the reversal on the Bush tax cuts. Now it's education reform. Uh, Obama? Remember these words recently spoken?

"I mean, you can't just make stuff up. You can't just re-create yourself. You can't just reinvent yourself. The American people aren't stupid."

Apparently, you think we are.

Thank goodness the Republicans are leading the way, and now finally the Democrats can follow. This is exactly what wonderful things we get when the two parties can come together and agree with each other. We get big government from both sides.

And it just gets better and better. We have no incandescent bulbs, no analog television, and of course that wonderfully "Constitutional" No Child Left Behind. I am so happy that we can all agree that the Feds have jurisdiction in all these areas. What I want to know is why we can still eat Big Macs (so unhealthy!), drink alcohol, drive over 20 MPH, wear ill fitting shoes and white after Labor Day? Where is the law stopping these things? Why can't Obama and McCain come together in this too, and fix these problems? As a matter of fact, why do we have to bother with these stupid local and state governments anyway? Talk about waste.

He has learned well from Bill Clinton. Obama knows that there will be a Democratic-controlled Congress next year. He will be able to claim that he wanted these things, but Congress would not cooperate.

Clinton made welfare reform on of his campaign promises in 1992. But it never made it through Congress until after the Republicans took over.

The only up side I can see from an Obama presidency is that it may push voters to elect a Republican Congress in 2010.

Obama Takes His Daughters Back to Private School

"ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Barack Obama dropped his two daughters off at school Monday -- in a motorcade complete with a Secret Service detail -- for their first day back to school in Chicago.

The Democratic nominee, dressed in work out clothes and a baseball hat, held the hands of his daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, seven, as they walked, toting backpacks, into the University of Chicago Laboratory School.

The elite charter school costs between $15,000 to $20,000 a year in tuition. Michelle Obama currently sits on the board.

“Obama campaigning in Ohio, promising money for charter schools .”

Of course he will. Many of the Charter Schools in New York City (and maybe his Chicago as well) are run by Marxists with Marxist political themes written into the school mission.

Why NYC even has a public school whose curriculum mission is “Arabic Culture”. The dedication ceremony was led by a local radical Muslim Imam. Can you imagine the public outcry if they had started a public school dedicated to the “Christian” culture, or the “Jewish” culture.

I am in favor of vouchers that in affect reimburse people for part of their private education choices. I am not in favor of the charter school movement - that’s like the Fredie Mac and Fannie May of education - direct public funds and public “approval” with no prevention of the hijacking of the education mission for a political agenda.
