Clinton turns down hatchet job
The Australian ^ | September 08, 2008 | Robert Lusetich

HILLARY Clinton may be the most obvious choice to throw into the ring against the new darling of American politics, Sarah Palin, but the failed Democratic presidential candidate is refusing the job.

"We're not going to be anybody's attack dog against Sarah Palin," a Clinton insider said yesterday.

It's an extraordinary act of hubris from a woman whose success in exposing Barack Obama's weakness in working-class Democratic states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana may have been the reason that John McCain chose a gun-toting, God-loving mother of five as his running mate.

Although she is 60 and unlikely to have another shot at the White House, Clinton is apparently concerned that she would appear ungenerous to the Republicans' first female vice-presidential candidate if she were to go after her.

She knows damn well the slightest misstep and she will be toast in NY.
No one here is rowing her boat any more.

You're right. Besides, why should HRC carry Obama’s water? If Obama wanted HRC’s help, he should have asked her to be his VP.

She says she won’t do it, but you watch... She’ll do it, and claim she’s not.

Not surprising. Why would Hillary!, the person who most benefits from an Obama loss, help him?

Hillary wants nothing more than to watch Barack Obama get beat so soundly, he never comes back. No way will she carry his water and cross herself off the list for 2012.

If Barack wins, he will neutralize her with a nomination to the Supreme Court to replace Ginsburg or Stevens.

She says she won’t do it, but you watch... She’ll do it, and claim she’s not.

Whatever she does, it will be the result of a fine political calculation.

"If I join the ticket, will it win?"

If the answer is "No" -- which is the right answer -- she won't join the ticket. Instead, she'll make some token appearances, mouth the right words...and watch Obama go down in flames.

Then, she'll start laying plans for 2012.

Are there no editors left? Even when you break this statement down to: “It's an...act of hubris from a woman...who may have been the reason” it makes no sense.

Oh, and of course the Clintons aren't going to help Obama. They want him to lose so that she can run again in 2012.

She will run in 2012, so why tarnish her image attaching herself to a losing campaign? A campaign which didn’t put her in the VP slot even though she was received the 2nd highest number of votes in primary history.

I think Hillary has enough political sense to know that attacking Palin will backfire on whoever does it. And she wants to remain viable for 2012.

The Dims are saying Obammie is not a muslim. If that’s true, why is he sending women (Clinton, Napolitano and Sebelius) out to do his fighting for him?

HRC will hold off the hatchet attacks until November 5, or perhaps late night on November 4.
