Dissecting Liberals

If at times, it is not easy to determine what a liberal is, it’s because during presidential election campaigns, politicians who have been voting like liberals, talking like liberals and boasting about their liberal credentials, suddenly insist that they’re really centrists as they go about trying to garner the votes of gullible Republicans and Independents. It’s rather like Michelle Obama trying to convince us that she’s just another stay-at-home mom who loves America and her kids, and in exactly that order.

Most of us on the right can spot a liberal a mile away, just as easily as experienced bird watchers can identify cuckoos, parrots and pigeons. But just in case you’re not as proficient at recognizing the odd ducks that populate the left, allow me to be your guide through the wilderness.

In America, more than 80% of African-American and Jewish voters can be safely assumed to favor liberals in any and all elections. The reason that poor blacks vote overwhelmingly for Democrats is because they have been told over and over again by plantation owners like Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton, that it’s only through the federal government’s largesse that they can manage to survive at all. I suppose even if an able-bodied person is told from childhood on that he lacks the ability to walk, let alone run, he will come to believe he needs a wheelchair or at least a pair of crutches.

Middle-class, church-attending, blacks often owe their unnatural allegiance to the party of George Wallace, Strom Thurmond and Robert Byrd, because they listen to their ministers. Political bribes are usually frowned upon, except when the Democrats act as bagmen for the black clergy. There is a reason, you know, why white politicians get to spend so much time in black churches at election time, in spite of their insistence that “separation of church and state” is writ large somewhere in the Constitution.

When it comes to Jews, the great majority of us are secular when it comes to religion, but religious when it comes to leftist politics. It isn’t a coincidence that Karl Marx, Leon Trotsky started out as Jews, and that 39 of 42 Jews currently serving in the House and Senate are left-wingers who, while disparaging Christian belief in Jesus as the messiah, have no problem whatsoever accepting Barack Obama in that role.

I happen to know a Jewish professor who lives in the Pacific Northwest. While he may not be typical, his mindset isn’t all that different from many of my fellow Jews. When George Bush was running for re-election in 2004, Professor Sandy sent me an e-mail in which he claimed that if Bush won, America would immediately begin building concentration camps for Jews, and he was glad he lived close to Canada and would be able to escape across the border.

Most liberals will tell you that they don’t hate America, they merely hate George Bush. But when you ask them why they hate him so much, they start yammering about the invasion of Iraq, even though all the Democratic bigwigs spent the 1990s calling for regime change, and later voted for the invasion. The left also hates Bush because of the Patriot Act. They insist it’s cost us many of our basic freedoms. But I have yet to ask a liberal to name a single freedom he had under Clinton that he doesn’t have today and received a coherent answer. Yet, even I can come up with one. Thanks to Jimmy Carter, who allowed the Islamic crazies to get a foothold in Iran by turning his back on the Shah, and Bill Clinton, who spared Osama bin Laden’s life on more than one occasion, I no longer have the freedom to arrive at an airport half an hour before boarding and expect to make my flight.

There is a good reason, though, that liberals are liberals. By and large, they are people who never fully mature and who go through life, like sullen teenagers, resenting figures of authority -- be they police officers, members of the military, teachers who believe in discipline and academic standards in the classroom – people, in short, who have rules and values. These folks started out by resenting their parents, assuming their parents were responsible adults and not aging hippies, the sort of parents who set curfews and expected good grades, parents who objected to their offspring boozing, shacking up and using drugs.

For years, we have all heard Hollywood’s most prominent left-wingers vow to leave America if we assorted racists, fascists and evil yokels, managed to elect a Republican president. And although Republicans have won five of the last seven presidential elections, and in spite of my standing offer to drive any and all of them to the airport, in all that time the only movie star who has left America except to make a movie or work on his tan is Johnny Depp, who moved to France. Sean Penn and Robin Williams did the next best thing. They moved to San Francisco.

One of the most annoying things about liberals is that when nightmarish events don’t take place as they predicted -- be they concentration camps for Jews, cataclysmic hurricanes or rising sea levels -- they never admit they were mistaken. They can’t even bring themselves to acknowledge that global warming was a hoax concocted by Al Gore; instead, they merely start squawking like a barnyard full of Chicken Littles about the intentionally vague phenomenon known as climate change.

In the meantime, Nancy Pelosi turns off the lights in the House so that Congress can’t vote for increased oil drilling. Then, to compound matters, she takes time off from her book tour to go on “Meet the Press” with liberal shill Tom Brokaw and explain that her personal financial investment in natural gas exploration was simply a means by which to wean Americans away from our dependence on hydrocarbons. Brokaw, either because he didn’t know or, more likely, had no intention of embarrassing Madame Speaker, neglected to point out that natural gas is a hydrocarbon!

By the way, in keeping with the times, I’m Burt Prelutsky and I approve this message.

This is way too much analysis. Why are liberals liberal?

1) White Guilt.
2) Oprah tells me what to do.
3) Intellectuals tell me what to do.
4) All the cool kids do it.
5) I only respond to events, I don’t actually think deeply about them.

Pick some combination of the above.

I had the opportunity to attend the McCain-Palin rally in Sterling Heights, MI with a friend last Friday (9/5) and the line in from the parking lot was long but it moved at a fairly good pace. Once inside the pavillion of the Freedom Hill Amphitheatre, we spotted two decent general admission seats on one of the aisles just left of center stage but a woman sitting in the the third seat denied us the two seats while claiming rights to all five (the 2 to her left and the 2 to her right) seats saying that “...these people are here...” and “...they’re in the parking lot and they are on their way in...”. The SNAFU got the attention of one of the ushers but she was feigning a cell phone call and was effectively unavailable and too important to hear the man out as he tried to explain that those seats were not hers to save for anyone and that she would have to abide by the rules which were printed on the face of the ticket. It was the same story a couple of rows up- Some middle-aged blonde, sitting pretty all by herself claiming a group of seats for people who were not yet past security and the turnstiles. Upon my return to the original row of seats, another usher had shown up and was trying to explain the facts of life to the first blonde but she was bound and determined to “own” those five seats. Once the ushers realized that this person was intent on being difficult and rather than let her continue to make a scene, they were kind enough to offer us some seats down in the VIP rows for our trouble. I couldn’t help but think and to remark that those two women had just exhibited the symptoms of liberalism and how their sense of entitlement made them look ridiculous considering that one of the themes of the evening was “Country First”. My friend and I owe you guys a big thanks. Another thought occurred to me at that juncture-That the system works!

Well, insanity has been previously defined as "doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result".

Using that definition as a yardstick, we can see that socialist/communist-style governments have been tried all over the world; dismal failures all.

The American political left would like nothing more than to try a socialist system here. See the 1st two paragraphs.

Purely from a theoretical standpoint, the left MAY have a case: "From each according to his gifts, to each according to his needs" sounds fine, on its face.

However, the success of a socialist/communist system presupposes that all within such a system will be honest, upright, and moral people. Basic human nature suggests that there will ALWAYS be people that will try to exploit a system to their own personal advantage: see the Soviet Union where the nomenklatura were well fed and housed, while the "masses" barely subsisted.

THEN there are the small percentage that enjoy power just for power's sake. They really get their rocks off by telling you and me what to do. These are the really dangerous ones. See Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, and a host of other howl-at-the-moon-crazy people that have wrought tremendous damage upon humanity.

The average leftist really believes that socialism/communism is really best for everyone. The "above-average" leftist believes that they are smart enough to be one of the rulers. The problem is that they have failed to learn from the historical record. After all, the cream of the crop that helped usher in communist governments were usually exterminated in the power struggles that followed.

If agitating for a system of government that will likely see you killed ISN'T insanity; then I don't know what is.

“We know they’re insane—but why?”

Good article. it touches on SOME of the reasons/theories that explain their distorted views:

-rebellion against parents and authority in general that was personified during the 60s-70s

-arrested personal development

-reliance on fallacious reasoning and theory, including the perpetuation of the idea that the GOP was anti-semitic (also discussed by the author, whose friend asserted that Bush would build concentration camps).

What also needs to be taken into account is the high percentage of American-Jews who spent years in institutions of higher learning, as higher education is a value that is stressed in Jewish families who want their offspring to “get ahead”.

We know what bastions of liberalism the college campuses have become. The PhD= piled on higher and deeper.

Purely from a theoretical standpoint, the left MAY have a case:

You've hit the nail on the head here... A socialist/communist system depends on the individual always choosing the collective over self. Most people won't do that. And, as you mention, those who want to rule over the others will make life pretty much miserable for all.

One reason that it's tried over and over again is due to the hubris of those who believe that there's nothing wrong with the theory, the only problem has been with the implementation and those in charge. If only THEY had been in charge, the society wouldn't have failed.

And that's one of the things that attracts so many to that sick way of thinking. The belief that they know better, and their own superiority.

The goal of leftism is to destroy people and objects of envy. Leftism is very successful wherever it's tried. You assume that leftists want prosperity like you do. They do not.

Definitely one of the signs. Ego...Look at me...I’m important...I’m somebody...Purpose of holding the seats was to be a star within their small World of sycophant associates. Probably the same sorts you see in the local bar holding court. Five feet tall outside, ten feet tall inside.

I have watched in wonder as we see the libs in the media and the democrats become what they proclaim they hate the most.

Conservatives already knew they had no credibility anymore, but it is great sport to watch them unravel. Liberalism, a true mental disorder, is on display.

Someone needs to make a movie about this. It would be a great comedy. Who is that guy who made “airplane”?

Yep, they can’t play nice. It must be some deep-seated (no pun intended) fear that if they were to “give it up”, it somehow makes them vulnerable to some kind of abuse. I pity the fools.

Liberals aren’t satisfied to simply be “IN” with the “IN” crowd, they compete to be THE IN CROWD.

Totally self serving of low self esteem. They require considerable attention, or they will create considerable attention.

Great commentary on a sad subject. Sometimes I wish that people couldn’t vote for president until they’re legally old enough to BE president.

“They require considerable attention, or they will create considerable attention.”

It is interesting, if not embarrassing, to observe the victim mentality of the self-entitled whenever their so-called entitlements are fairly challenged. Their attempts to make “2+2” equal 3, 5 or anything but correct is such a sorrowful tune that it’s enough to make the otherwise objective observer want to regurgitate.
