Patton would have been a terrible SECDEF. SECDEFs are, by definition, politicians. While a brilliant battlefield tactician, it's hard to think of anyone who would have fewer of the political skills required of a SECDEF than Patton.

You have your reasoning I have mine. Don't rain on my parade and I won't rain on yours.

The reality is it would never happen for the reasons you mentioned. However I still believe he would have been great precisely because he wasn't a politician. Doesn't mean it can be said. We're brainstorming here nothing more. No harm no foul.
