There's a lie, right there. When he married Sarah Palin's sister, Palin was NOT the Gov. and when he divorced her sister, Sarah Palin STILL wasn't the Gov. Even after she became Gov., Wooten still had his trooper job, so how did Sarah Palin's being Gov. affect him in any way?

The only way Palin would have any affect on Whooten would have been after she became Governor, since he was still a trooper at that time.

And my question is why is the Obama campaign involving itself in something which is none of it’s legitimate business?

As for your question, if no divorce had occured then I would hope she would not report the matter. She wasn’t and isn’t a game warden and decent families put up with much worse than this from each other. But divorces get acrimonious. Especially when one of the partcipants starts spouting death threats.

Yep. Picked up on that too. Hoo boy, some real pros at work there. NOT.

Palin filed a complaint with the State Trooper’s office in 2005, before she was even thinking about running for Gov. It was very specific in detailing all the problems both she and her family, and others, had had with Trooper Wooten.

I think we know why the Dems are digging. Republicans have done the same. Anything to bring something to the attention of voters.

But divorces get acrimonious. Especially when one of the partcipants starts spouting death threats.

See, that's just it. That's why the state stepped in and wanted an investigation. They want to know if her complaint was revenge. Also, if Whooten had made threats were calls to the police made and proper complaints filed in a timely manner. There should be records of these things.

That's why the state is looking into possible ethics violations.

I agree with you that this story needs to go away and that no good for any of them comes from it.

This link has been posted more than a few times on FR, but here's another as some people are obviously still flummoxed by the details.

The state's investigation shouldn't take long then. The guy sounds like a jerk, but politicians have to be careful to dot their i's and cross their t's and do things by the book. There must be some question of wrongdoing or there wouldn't be an investigation into her actions.

I have no problem with democrats digging, republicans did the same with the Rezko matter.

My problem is with the Obama campaign contacting people who are involved in this investigation. Why are they doing this? It might be completely legitimate, but I don’t recall reading about the McCain campaign contacting people involved in the Rezko matter.

I want to know why Col. Julia Grimes didn’t fire Whooten and instead he gets only 10, reduced to 5 days suspension? Was it because of lack of evidence? There are still a lot of if’s in these articles.

Obama’s people will need to be careful, they too could find themselves accussed of witness tampering.

The complaint she made to the State Troopers office was specific about the threats made against her father and her sister, and the Tasering incident with his step-son. It also included reports of complaints others had made about the Trooper, including from a bar owner who had asked the Trooper to leave the premises after the Trooper tried to have another patron thrown out, and was throwing his weight around and showing his badge, even though he wasn't on duty. He was also witness on several occasions driving while drunk.

Sarah Palin's question to the State Trooper's office was about the damage Wooten was doing to the reputation of the Troopers because of his abuse of his authority, both toward her family, and to others.

Read that info from the Flopping Aces website. They did a great job of putting all the facts together.

This is just plain weird.

The idea of the earlier completion date for Branchflower’s report is to avoid the appearance of a last-minute “October surprise,” said Rep. Jay Ramras, a Fairbanks Republican and chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

The Palin administration in recent days has shown resistance to the legitimacy of the legislative investigation.

A press release today from Ramras and Sen. Hollis French, the Anchorage Democrat who is managing the Branchflower investigation, says subpoenas are necessary to compel cooperation with Branchflower.

Says the press release:

“This week, seven key witnesses informed Mr. Branchflower through their attorneys that they would not provide depositions. Their depositions, which had been agreed to and scheduled earlier with Mr. Branchflower, were cancelled within the last 72 hours.

“Additionally, the governor’s lawyer has stated that he represents the governor and the governor’s office, and has forbidden any contact by Mr. Branchflower with any member of that office.

Isn’t this an unusually high amount of people to cancel their depositions suddenly at once?

There is nothing here, but the DNC talking points media is determined to make something out of nothing.

Are you for real? Or you just haven't been following too closely?

The partisan hack in charge of it is Hollis French, a Democrat who was throwing around "impeachment" before the investigation even got off the ground. French is going to make sure they find something just to keep it in the spotlight till the election.

French is another Democrat that likes to inflate his resume by claiming Military Service. The reality is he did six weeks of ROTC summer camp - then quit. ===========

Well, it is right there on record where they can tie the Obama campaign to dirty politics. This guy is damaged and when people learn of his transgressions-it says something that the Obama team is seeking to align themselves with an abusive, unethical trooper. They are officially linked to this now and the McCain campaign can make sure to hit them with this when they respond to the slanders involving this.

Are you for real? Or you just haven't been following too closely?

I asked about lack of evidence, because the most serious accusation of threatening her father, he denies. He admits to other failings, mistakes was his word I think. I've known plenty of state troopers and leo's over the years and quite a few of them get drunk, and do stupid things and don't get fired for them. You might be surprised by what they get away with in small rural towns.

I was just wondering if the most serious accusations lacked evidence. That's all. Grimes was the head of the troopers, so why didn't she fire him if there were overwhelming evidence? And why did seven people now suddenly decided to not be deposed?

I was just wondering if the most serious accusations lacked evidence.

And which is the most serious accusation?

Perhaps all seven decided not to participate in the witch hunt it has become.

I can think of no other story where a leo was accused of drinking in his patrol car and lived to tell about it.
