COLORADO SPRINGS — In just the second day of campaigning together, Republican Presidential nominee John McCain and his running mate, Sarah Palin, gave a command performance of their convention week speeches to a crowd of more than 10,000 here.

McCain and Palin hit popular notes from their big-stage speeches by promising to rein in government spending, lead America to energy independence and win the war in Iraq.

"There's no place more appropriate than here in Colorado Springs, with all the great service of people from here, to tell you this: We are winning in Iraq," McCain said, drawing some of the biggest cheers of his 15-minute speech.

I’m glad you got down there to represent us in Northern Colorado. Excellent!

Well, I went there to see Sarah, not to Freep anyone. But in hindsight I should have expected the presence of moonbats. I think all FR activists should be aware that for the next 2 months, any large political events - especially ones McCain/Palin attend - are going to draw Leftist protesters. So if we go, we should be prepared with a sign or two in our trunks at all times, with a US flag to fly proudly, with a UN flag for a doormat, and so on.

Great photos! Thanks for posting them. All my photos of the stage were from too far away to be any good.

The trash bags with US Flags arrive (thanks to Obama!)

Hey! What are you insinuating? Don't you know that's just a scurrilous anti-Messiah rumor that's been completely debunked by the DNC organizers? Why, I read in their own words that even though the allegedly unwanted flags had been sitting for eight days at Invesco Field in black trash bags right next to trash cans awaiting pickup, just hours away from being thrown away, until finally some facilities manager asked the Republicans if they wanted them .......... In spite of all that, the DNC guy claims they actually did have someone who was really, seriously planning to pick up the flags, any moment now, any day now, cross his heart and hope to die. So why are you propagating vicious rumors like that? LOL!

I still have my flag ..... dangit! Didn't think of this before now! Shoulda gotten two, one for a keepsake and one to sell on eBay, after engraving the stick with something appropriate like "Rejected by Democrats; Rescued by Clinging Republicans".

I see that those of you up close had a different problem than we who were midway back. Our biggest problem was a sea of flags blocking the view of the tiny podium area, while yours was a sea of cameras and cell phones between you and John/Sarah/Cindy.

That was just one heckuva great way to spend a day! I'm jazzed, man. I am jazzed!

"Thats a real pic ???"

Yes. I was there. Waht you see in that first photo on the thread is about 1/3 of the people that were outside the hanger (where I was on the right, isn't even on the photo, I was down by Palin's plane. From my times at football games and the like, I'd guess 15,000. It was fun.

I saw a fair number of African-Americans at the rally. Then again, it’s Colorado Springs.

15,000, you think? The guy in charge of the security checkpoint counted 13,000, so your guess sounds close. None of the stories I saw in local papers would tell you how many attended. One just said "thousands". Spin, spin, spin. They wouldn't want to give any facts that might demoralize Obama's base. The really ARE running scared.

The same energy and enthusiasm we all felt yesterday afternoon can be see reflected in a couple of short videos of the Albuquerque rally that John & Sarah flew off to immediately after our CoSprgs rally. The view inside the arena shows it just jam packed! They showed a long line of people wanting to get in who were waiting vainly for extra tickets that might be turned in by people who had to cancel out.

Go to this link and click on the ones labeled "New Mexicans prepare for McCain, Palin(02:15)" and "McCain holds 'Road to Victory' Rally(02:48)". At the end of the 2nd one, they mention that Robert Duvall introduced Sarah. There's also a 33 min video of the Rally.

Thanks for sharing! We were celebrating my sons birthday, but when my daughters heard that I had been offered tickets to this event, they were really mad at me. They have a new hero in Sarah! I think had they known they would have jumped in the car and headed down to the springs, I’m glad you got to go.
