Shaves six points off Obamas lead in Gallup -
An uncharacteristic care package o optimism to tide you over for a few hours. The meme du jour isnt Palinmania but the after-the-fact rave reviews for McCains speech trickling in from unlikely sources. Sample error? Maybe not: Check out the grading in Survey USAs new national poll. For some reason the data from Tampa specifically is getting attention today, but in fact the speech played almost as well across the country as it did down there. Gallups got him within two now nationally after trailing by eight just four days ago; a solid effort in one of the most watched speeches in history will do that for you, I guess. Obligatory pessimistic note: Be sure to note the party breakdowns in the SUSA poll, especially on the single-issue questions, as most of McCains advantage comes not from independents but Republicans skewing heavily his way.

Wait! I thought the talking head lefties said the speech was horrible?
For context, AllahPundit is one of the two main HotAir bloggers. He is pessimistic about McCain/Palin and gets needled for that pessimism on that blog.
The election of Palin at the convention cuts across the fundamental tenets of leftism, as she is pro-life, family, marriage, work, self-sufficiency, and the rest. She is a blow to the historical goals of the left and its handmaiden, feminism.
Well, maybe John McCain DIDN’T suck, at least not nearly so much as he was supposed to have, according to the high authorities. In fact, in the absense of the truly stellar performance the previous evening by Sarah Palin, Thursday night would have come off as one of John’s best performances ever.
But again, the presence of Sarah on the ticket just seems to be encouraging John to exceed himself in so many ways. And here I was afraid it would be just another trudging weary and ultimately futile funeral march to the polls. Nothing like starting the day with a fresh and invigorating reason to get out there and be GLAD to be an American once again.
Sarah, you have been a shot of adrenaline for America. And for this, I humbly give thanks, for whatever divine inspiration was bestowed upon John McCain.
Cindy McCain bored me to tears (I knew most everything she had to say) and John started out the same way. I thought, this is really bad, although his bio itself is compelling.
But when he started talking about how his captivity changed his life, and showed him how much he loved and owed America, I thought, this guy gets it. By the end, I thought, America could do a lot worse than this man.
At least he loves the country. At Saddleback, when Rick Warren asked for examples of evil, the first thing that sprang to Obama’s mind was America.
“Wait! I thought the talking head lefties said the speech was horrible?”
Obamao Media Bots come with preloaded software, they always default to that talking point....
Something might be stirring out in America, I watched the speech, thought it was good, but America apparently REALLY liked it, Thursday was Opening Day of the NFL, political speeches were still on 40 million Americans minds, and the poll indicates that they liked the speech.
The Average American is not “us”, we will see how the polls move now.
Here’s some good advice from Rush about polls:

America is falling out of love with Obama. By this time two weeks from now, Obama will be -5 in Gallup, and will never again lead the race. The only question is if/when Biden or even Obama himself will be replaced on the ticket.
