I think this makes it official—Obama is running against Palin—not McCain.

First he came out and offered a rebuttal to her comments on “community organizer,” now this.

He’s scared. :)

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) Barack Obama is offering his first direct criticism of Sarah Palin (PAY'-lin) and it's on the subject of earmarks.

Hot Air has a post up on this: Guy who requested $740 million in earmarks on Palin: You can’t really be for change if you’re pro-earmark.

Barry is a bozo.

He probably had to be corrected: although Terre Haute is French, we don't pronounce it that way in America.

Hmmm..."community organizer", n., job in which an agitator convinces people they need something, then extorts it from the government." (paraphrased from Saul Alinskey)

Sounds a lot like earmarking from another angle. But Obama will bring this odious practice to an end. /s

She explained this the other night.

She used the money for projects that really needed to get done in Alaska.

Makes sense to me.

Obama would be wise to avoid a discussion on earmarks. Someone may bring to attention the earmark he sent to his wife’s employer that appears to have gone directly to fattening her salary.

Per Fox news, Obama speaking to 700 people in Indiana. That in itself is funny.

I think an important distinction that needs to be drawn is that Palin never said she opposed ALL earmarks of every kind....she’s ooposed to the ABUSE of the earmark process. I don’t know how any state could operate without SOME federal funding for roads, freeways, etc.

Her record of reform against those who become corrupted by abusing the process is pretty solid - she’s gone after members of both parties and I have little doubt she’d shake up Washington as well.

Time to bring up his million dollar earmark to UofC that corresponded to his wife's 160% raise. Bring it on!

Seems to be she was doing her job. Her job is to get back as much money as she can that the citizens of Alaska send to DC to be .... away. That is her job as mayor or governor or head of the PTA.

From a March 14, 2008 NYT article:

Senator Barack Obama on Thursday released a list of $740 million in earmarked spending requests that he had made over the last three years, and his campaign challenged Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to do the same.

The list included $1 million for a hospital where Mr. Obama’s wife works, money for several projects linked to campaign donors and support for more than 200 towns, civic institutions and universities in Illinois.

But as the Senate debated a bill to restrict the controversial method of paying for home-state projects — a measure defeated Thursday evening — Mr. Obama’s presidential campaign also said that only about $220 million worth of his requests had been approved by Congress. And among those that had been killed were his request in 2006 for $1 million for an expansion of the University of Chicago Medical Center, where Mr. Obama’s wife, Michelle, is a vice president.

Mr. Obama’s aides and officials at the hospital said Mr. Obama’s wife had had nothing to do with the request. Campaign officials said he had voluntarily released the list of his earmark requests to underscore his promise to bring greater openness and transparency to government, an issue on which he has tried to put Mrs. Clinton on the defensive.

Why do I keep thinking this election will be a McCain landslide? I hear the poll numbers. I see the stories and read the reports. However, I just don't see blue-collar Dems from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania voting for Obama. I'm beginning to think the Dems want to keep thier poll numbers high so, when the inevitable landslide occurs, blacks in this country will be outraged by having their election "stolen" from them....

And I have anecdotal evidence that Obama isn't even particularily liked by all black people. From my wanderings around here in Mississippi, he seems to be loved only by black women....seems his only reliable constituency is the OJ Jury. Black men are mixed (you won't get them to admit they don't strongly support Obama, but you can hear it in their voice). Of course, this is all anecdotal.

What a hypocrite. Obama has requested earmarks for his wife's hospital and political allies as well as similar ones to those Palin requested (hospitals, universities, city infrastructure).

There are legitimate earmarks and absurd ones, like ones for the Woodstock Museum.
