He said look for just about everyone to have a flag when McCain speaks in about 20 mins.
I also said on the other 2 threads that they should make a video of flag moments, Iwo Jima, Washington crossing the Delaware (particularly good as the plagarist is from Delaware.) Francis Scott Key at Fort McHenry, Betsy Ross, myth or legend, the moon landing, 9/11...
I thought it was John Wayne who did the Ragged Old Flag but it was Johnny Cash, I know, Iknow, old timer’s disease. They used to play it at rodeos and that was years ago.
Are there any freepers out there who are talented and would like to put something like this together for utube? I think we could use it as an issue throughout the campaign.
Johnny Cash Song Lyrics ]
RAGGED OLD FLAG
I walked through a country court house square
On a park bench an old man was sitting there
I said, “Your court house is kinda run down”
He said, “Naw, it’ll do for our little town”
I said, “Your flag pole has a leaned a little bit
And that’s a Ragged Old Flag you got hanging on it”
He said, “Have a seat” and I sat down
“Is this the first time you’ve been in our little town?”
I said, “I think it is,” he said “I don’t like to brag
But we’re kinda proud of that Ragged Old Flag
You see, we got a little hole in that flag there
When Washington took it across the Delaware
And it got powder burned the night Francis Scott Key
Sat watchin’ it writing ‘Say Can You See’
And it got a bad rip in New Orleans
With Packinham and Jackson tuggin’ at its seams
And it almost fell at the Alamo
Beside the Texas flag but she waved on through
She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville
And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill
There was Robert E. Lee, Beauregard and Bragg
And the south wind blew hard on that Ragged Old Flag
On Flanders Field in World War I
She got a big hole from a Bertha Gun
She turned blood red in World War II
She hung limp and low by the time it was through
She was in Korea and Vietnam
She went where she was sent by her Uncle Sam
Native Americans, brown, yellow and white
All shed red blood for the Stars and Stripes
In her own good land here she’s been abused
She’s been burned, dishonored, denied and refused
And the government for which she stands
Has been scandalized throughout the land
And she’s getting threadbare and wearing thin
But she’s in good shape for the shape she’s in
Cause she’s been through the fire before
And I believe she can take a whole lot more
So we raise her up every morning, take her down every night
We don’t let her touch the ground and fold her up right
On second thought I do like to brag
Cause I’m mighty proud of that Ragged Old Flag.”
Even though these are ‘cheap’ representations of the American flag, they still count as flags! And should be disposed of (or recycled is even better) properly. I fly a small 3’x5’ flag in front of my house (sadly one of the only flags shown on my block except at 4th of July)—because we are next to a big park the wind tends to be pretty strong out there and every 3 months or so I have to replace the flags because they become shredded on the bottom where the wind has been whipping them about. I would NEVER toss the old flag in the trash can—I fold them up carefully as I can and take them to my daughter’s elementary school. One of the teachers is a boy scout leader, and she and her troop dispose of the flags properly.
Ubama’s people should have known better. [how do you show an emoticon for contempt?] >:-(
On 9/11, I bought from my local grocery store, for full price, a hand flag with a broken stick that would most likely have been dicarded. I still have it, sans stick, on the visor in my car.
IOW just throw it on the floor like Joe Biden did at the convention. It is always a 'big deal' friend. Its a symbol of all that the United States stands for. And, don't you forget it!!!!
Absolutely awesome. :*)
Just added this to my blog. We will NEVER have a President Ubama as long as there are people of the same honorable caliber & character as this hero in the USA!!!
A few years ago I attended a rally when Clinton was confiscating land for ‘national monuments’(and some private property) on Soda Mountain in So. Oregon. The full course of envirofreaks were there with their dozens of fancy corporate/non profit $ signs. Several of us ‘rednecks’ stayed after they left and cleaned up the trash and signs they tossed away on their ‘monument’.
