I suspect there were so many flags left over because the people attending Obama's speech didn't want them in the first place. I'm guessing that these were offered at the door on the way in, and there weren't too many takers.

Although, the flag waving by the delegates on the field at the stadium during the Obama speech seemed a little creepy and weird to me. It came across as phony, and that's worse than being 'merely' unpatriotic.

I am sure you are right. For these America hating scum bags, it must have felt like holy water thrown on a vampire to hold an American flag. It was all show.
