STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich.John McCain may have swapped one enthusiasm gap for another.
As he touched down in suburbs outside of Milwaukee and Detroit, the just crowned Republican nominee found himself first on the newly-fashioned signs proclaiming the unlikely GOP ticket but seemingly second in the hearts of the thousands who thronged rallies to catch their first glimpse in person of Sarah Palin.
McCain drew loud applause, first at a morning appearance in the downtown of a quaint, Republican-leaning Wisconsin village and then at a more-boisterous amphitheater rally here in Michigans working-class Macomb County.
Yet it was Palin who many, especially women, in both crowds were thrilled to see up close just days after she exploded onto the national political scene.

Sorry if this was already posted but even if it was, it’s good enough to read again!
great article......I haven’t seen it. tx.
John McCain doesn’t care who gets the credit. He is a true leader!
Good article.
I can't tell you how many times I have heard this over the last week. I talked with one lady who described herself as a "true independent" whom I had argued with this time last year about the Iraq war (she was very opposed) who told me how much she loved Palin (and this was Tuesday). Sarah has certainly struck a chord.
Surprisingly objective, even upbeat.
That very much needs to prove true, because she is overshadowing him BIGTIME, and he needs to be smart and ride the Sarahcuda Express right to the White House.

Crowd estimates for the Wisconsin event were well over the 10,000 mentioned. There were 12,500 ticketed and overflow estimates from 5,000 to 10,000
She just connects to us. Admittedly, I am older, shorter, not nearly as smart or pretty, but I have kids and I have had problems with them and I have always worked. My job isn’t glamorous but I enjoy it. Sarah is truly “one of us”. Like I said, she “gets it”. Not many in public office really do.
I hoped you watched Greta last night. She had the Major General of the Alaska National Guard on her program.
He explained just how hands on Sarah is with regard to the Guard in their state. You could not have asked for a more professional explanation of her treatment of the Guard.
How she went to visit the Alaska guard unit in Kuwait. Asked them what they needed. Went back home, asked the families what they needed and then went about making sure her Guard troops were cared for and about. The officer said it was the first time any Governor in Alaska had done that.
“missing a few teeth”.. does yahoo have an agenda?
drive by media beware.. we will not suck up to your blather.Hey,AP.. you lie too much..
Yes, as a “real man,”
I love Sarah Palin and her family.
Just fantastic !
What a leader !
And that there is the "money quote"
Don't worry. McCain fully understands that his finger is on the button come January next year, not hers. He will make policy and appoint the cabinet. He is elated to get whatever help required to get into the White House.
Moms are bringing their young daughter who will be the next generation of Republicans. This is big folks really big! :D
I saw that segment. It seems that Greta is talking to the folks in Alaska and is hard-pressed to find anyone that doesn’t sing the Governor’s praises.
The Major General couldn’t give Palin enough accolades. He is very impressed with her.
Greta’s segment was in direct response to Campbel Brown’s insistence that the McCain aide tell her ONE thing that Palin ever did as Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard.
That Brown episode is what led to McCain cancelling his appearance on Larry King.
If CNN was a real news station they would have gone to the Guard and asked them what Palin did, if anything. They would rather play ugly insinuation that report the news.
