Hope they didn't take out any sub prime loans or over spend when that oil cash was flowing in.

Odd that the price started to fall right after Bush signed the executive order to drill.

If we drill and the price really goes down, then it could be said that the Democrats and the leftist environmentalists have been helping our enemies prop up the price of oil for the last 30 years and making a problem they pretended they could solve will bigger government.

These were the morons saying oil was going to $200 bbl.

I would guess if the entire civilized world were to go gangbusters to search for and develop oil resources wherever they can be found we can, in a relatively short period of time break the back of those countries who now hold sway over such a large part of our future.

Iran has been benefiting from the highs for light sweet oil but their product is heavy crude. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Iran has no refineries.

I know they have one, but they import almost as much in refined stock as they export in crude....

Who needs refineries when you have 6,000 centrifuges....

The left has not blocked every entrance to energy there is in the US for nothing, this will definitely spoil their plans. However if prices gets too low they will get back on the don't drill band wagon again not that they ever got off.

The game is to use energy to promote socialism/Marxism and it almost worked.

The rats know solar and wind can only do so much and its very little in the overall mix 15-20% would be huge, but since its a lot like their candidate, its all they have going for them they will give it a try.

I still say the palin effect will be stronger than anyone ever realized, conservatism always kicks the rats butts, every time.

Seems as though the Greenspan enigma is going to take its course with the formulation of derivatives, etc., the sub-prime orgy, commodities manipulations, burn your food goobermint sponsored plans, open borders, give aways to the illegals, etc., etc., is coming home to roost.

The retail sector is slowly drowning.<

The very thing that helps keep this country running has been under attack and that group's spending has curled back sharply.

That group is the working American middle class.

It is evident that the Feds and W and Congresses out of touch policies have flopped.......watch.

The government cannot simply lie about all the shrinking going on in the economy; too many reports to conflict. The US auto industry is and has been a good bellwether for what is really going on in the economy.

I hate it. McLame knows the story and the RATS in charge and McLame himself with the rest of the GOP in Congress still have done nothing to strengthen the dollar...i.e. remove the ban on OCS drilling, cut spending, balance trade deficits, deport free-loading uneducated illegals, etc.;, etc......they've been waiting trying to get Zero in the White House before dropping the hammer on the working middle class and our livelihoods / way of life.

We're in a slow steady tail spin economically and the pilots are telling the passengers....its just a minor malfunction at this time.

Have you noticed that "these pilots" are trying to play victims, too?

No. It dropped when Obama finally convinced me to inflate my tires.

We are building few, just not enough. It cost something like $2 Billion each and takes close to a decade to completion. Valero is almost done with their new one on the Texas Coast. I think there is one other one that is being expanded to double its capacity.

Is that so? I had no idea, I thought the whole idea of a refinery was just not even politically possible. Well good for us!

Like nuclear, the company has to want it bad enough to go through Hell and Earth to just get started. Valero is one of the biggest refineries. So for them it is a matter of increasing market share over competitors who don’t have the cash or wherewithal to follow through in building refineries. Also Valero is one of the biggest infrastructure and retail companies in Texas. So they own everything from refinery to retail pump under their brand name. Then from the refinery they sell to other discount retailers. I would assume building a new refinery is part to keep up supply to their own retail stations, so they don’t have to buy from somebody else.

Whenever Americans get ticked off over oil prices and discuss becoming independent of foreign oil, OPEC opens the spigots on its oil production, lowering the prices.

Americans can not fall for this ruse and must continue to push for drilling here and drilling now. We have to declare our "Independence Day" from foreign oil.

drilling here and drilling now

McCain/Palin campaign should write this on a big poster and plaster it in front of their campaign vehicles.
