Of course, Teddy Roosevelt was bumped up to be the candidate for Vice President because his progressive reforms were causing too much trouble for New York Republicans.

In 1912 T. Roosevelt seceded from the Republican Party, split the vote, and allowed the election of Democrat Woodrow Wilson.
