How about these two stunning examples of Vice Presidential candidates the Democrats have previously put forward:
1924 — Charles W. Bryan: Three years as Mayor of Lincoln, NE (1915-1917) and one year as Governor of Nebraska (1923) at the time of the 1924 presidential election.
1972 — Sargent Shriver: First Director of the Peace Corps (1961-1969). . . . . a feel good program created by his brother-in-law JFK and called by Nixon “nothing but a haven for draft dodgers”. . . . .and two years as Ambassador to France (1968 - 1970).
Foolish mortals! He was president of Princeton! He was qualified to create the world!
OK, so FDR was “Assistant” Secretary of the Navy....
Sure. A position.
Not even Secretary of the Navy (a budget-requesting position!) and promotions-siging ....
Much less Secretary of War. (No DOD at that time.)
“Here is another one term Govenor who was placed on the Republican ticket in 1900 - Teddy Roosevelt... and went on to be the 26 th President of the USA.”
Of course, Teddy Roosevelt was bumped up to be the candidate for Vice President because his progressive reforms were causing too much trouble for New York Republicans.
In 1912 T. Roosevelt seceded from the Republican Party, split the vote, and allowed the election of Democrat Woodrow Wilson.
No offense Docs, but both Woody and FDR were disasters as President! Maybe that is not a good thing to bring up. Woody was a racist and a blatent liar on keeping the US out of WWII and FDR was a socialist and a admirer of Joe Stalin, and we are still paying for his disasterous policys!
OK, but I was going to call it professor courtesy.
“WOODROW WILSON WAS A TWO-YEAR GOVERNOR BEFORE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY NOMINATED HIM FOR PRESIDENT.”
And he was gawd awful as president. Do not compare him to Palin.
In the end, he stoked out and his wife ran the presidency for the last two (I think) years. She did not allow the VP to take over (as if it were her choice, but that is how it worked out).
Please, let's not compare Palin to that thug.
I just read your response.
I would not have posted mine had I read yours sooner.
Thank you.
stoked = stroked
don’t remind them, they’ll remind us of his enormous success with the League of Naitons.
“I was going to call it professor courtesy.”
Ooooh. That’s *GOOD*. I’ll steal it next time I write about Wilson.
