RNC use of 'Barracuda' as Palin theme song angers Heart

John McCain's campaign has suffered a Heart attack -- of the legal variety.

TMZ.com is reporting that Ann and Nancy Wilson are upset that their 1977 rock hit "Barracuda" was used without their permission in the Xcel Energy Center at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul.

The Heart duo has "fired off a cease and desist letter" to the McCain/Palin campaign, the gossip website is reporting this morning.

As soon as I heard that song, I knew that this would be the next headline.

Yep, me too. Funny how they SELL records and then say people cannot PLAY the song. The way I figure it, if I buy it I have the right to play it as loud as I want.

I wondered about that when I heard the song playing during the convention coverage. Most Hollywood celebrities will give the knee-jerk reaction of "cease and desist because otherwise someone might think we're Republicans".

BTW, a person can check their library's interlibrary loan system to have music, DVD's and books sent to them for no charge. For those who may want to listen to Hollywood's product but not put money in the pockets of the liberal elite.

ROFL I think McCain/Palin should immediately stop playing that song at the Republican National Convention.

I believe that the RNC has an ASCAP license. The Wilson sisters can pound sand.

Every time McCain mentions Gov. Palin, or even eludes to her, they should play the first few bars of that song in the background. It would have a similar effect to the Jaws music in the movie.

I don’t know, but I suspect they pay something like BPI or ASCAP (I assume those are both still around) to be able to use music at their to do. In which case, I don’t think these women have a case.

I just heard the opposite on WLS 890 radio, Chicago. Jerry Agar said they were thrilled their song was used!

This wouldn't be the same Heart that moved to Vancouver so as to avoid draft of some of their effeminate male band members. I also think that they are going to remix a couple of songs such as:

What about fudge?

Cans of Tuna

Crazy on Food

Sandwich Man

time has not been kind to the Wilson sisters, who have not aged gracefully... (seen here with Fergie)...the best thing that could happen to them is there song gets played with a foxy lady like Palin....

Couldn’t agree more - playing this song is probably the last we will hear of these 70’s rockers. They should be happy someone is still listening!

I’m not a big fan of Heart, but the artists own their own intellectual property.

To say they don’t opens a very large Pandora’s box. I don’t think you want to go there.

Saw them play at the MidState Fair a few years ago. They should be happy that something makes them even somewhat relevant again. Ann could still sing, but Nancy’s guitar chops are long long gone. Too much drugs and other excess sure takes a toll. Funny, though. Styx was the opening act and absolutely blew them away.

I left early during Heart’s performance. I just couldn’t listen anymore. I was glad the whole show only cost me 28 bucks.

That is a great tune, and I loved them playing it last night. What a wonderful way to wrap up the convention. And if it pisses off some liberals - bonus!!

My daughter likes that song. Anne and Nancy should hush and just count the money they get from the downloads.

I think it is funny that Candace Bergen is scared...Talk about out of touch. Pallin and even McCain know what real people are. Hollywood so called stars are sinking their own boat. I can’t hardly stand to watch many movies these days
