McCain TV Ratings Beat Obama in Preliminary Numbers
TVWeek ^ | 9/5/08 | Andrew Krukowski

Posted on 09/05/2008 8:16:50 AM PDT by B Knotts

Presidential candidate John McCain's acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention drew more television viewers than his rival Barack Obama attracted at the Democratic party's event last week, according to preliminary ratings from Nielsen Media Research.

Across all broadcast networks Thursday, Sen. McCain’s speech ended the night with a 4.8 rating/7 share, compared to Sen. Obama’s 4.3/7 average, according to overnight numbers from metered households in 55 U.S. markets measured by Nielsen. These ratings are preliminary, however, and are subject to change.

NBC’s coverage of Sen. McCain’s speech started directly at the tail end of the opening game of NFL season, with the speech pulling in a 6.3 rating/10 share, topping Sen. Obama’s speech last week by 26%. That lead-in may have boosted audiences who last night turned out in droves to watch Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin introduce herself to the country.

ABC’s showing of the McCain speech averaged a 4.5/7, down 2% from the same night of the Democratic convention last week, while CBS’ coverage took in a 3.4/5, an increase of 3%.

This was pretty much the take in our house. McCain’s speech wasn’t really strong (it was ok in content)but came from the heart. His passion for our country is genuine.

When McCain/Palin get to the White House (I pray to God they do) They will need our support more than ever to effect the “Change” in the corrupt political system that has infected DC.

We already know that Liberals hate and fear strong women as they have now demonstrated with both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin.

Palin’s 40 million American viewers vs. Biden's 24 million people has the MSM running scared, compounding their general angst regarding Obama's lower than expected poll numbers.

Promotion of women's rights is just a ruse to get Democrats elected, not part of any core principles. Obama inherits, and contributes to, the mantle of hypocrisy that Liberals and their fellow travelers in the press wear without shame.

Brit Hume reported that the highest rated cable news show ever was FOX NEWS coverage of Sarah Palin’s speech on Weds night.

"Americans never hide from history; Americans MAKE history!"

John McCain's expressions of patriotism and love for this country brought this grown man to tears. The ending part of his speech was the best expression of what a patriot is and what it means to be a patriot.

In his own story and in his own way, he's shown us the what it means to be a patriot. The man who would rather lose an election than have his country lose a war is the right man to be CinC, because he will do what is best for the country. He will indeed put Country First.

“She gave in a prepared speech....” one that was NOT up on a teleprompter, and one she had less than a week to become familiar with.

GO SARAH!

I can't wait for the Veep debate. The Dims are already throwing around trash talk that Biden will wipe the floor with her. Their MSM allies will raise the bar sky high.

My prediction is Sarah will clean Slow Joe's clock and it will cause a huge reaction because of the expectations Joe would win.

They don’t even know if her jewelry is real, or what quality it is. Just another stupid smear attempt.

Just on principle, Vanity Fair needs to stop taking all advertising revenue from eeeeeevil, expensive designers and jewelers (Chanel, Ralph Lauren, de Beers, Calvin Klein, etc.) who sell their wares to “out of touch” rich people like Cindy McCain. Vanity Fair should stop running puff pieces on famous designers and design houses as well. Don’t hold your breath on that one!

And yesterday AirAmerica’s Ed Schultz was just saying the ratings would be in the tank because of the Skins/Giants game. Looks like we get the last laugh once again on that blow-hard Lefty.

“What were “Slave State” Biden’s speech’s numbers?”

I’m not sure what the market percentage was, but total viewers was 24,092,000 give or take a thousand or so.

Miss Sarah on the other hand trounced him with 37.2 million, and nearly tied obamination’s Nürnberg
style speech.

This would be great if McCain beat obamination’s total viewership numbers.

I don’t know what the actual percentages were but his actual viewership was around 24,092,000 IIRC.

Governor Palin trounced him and nearly tied obamination in total viewership.

I’m hard pressed to remember in my lifetime the nominee in their acceptance speech attacking, let alone admitting to, the problems and corruption within his own party before.

McCain is showing a lot of political savvy. Most swing voters believe BOTH parties are corrupt. By admitting he knows the Repubs have a problem and will do something about it, he is pulling in those undecided voters.

Its not a matter of believing, like it or not there is corrpution in BOTH parties.

He spoke as an American to Americans, and like I have said before, he sealed the deal last night. It was not a speech for the history books, but it was absolutely the right speech by the right man at the right time.

The polls don’t show it yet, but Fauxbama and his backers are fighting a lost cause, and I suspect a great many of them know it this morning, even if they aren’t willing to admit it.

Its like watching some Las Vegas show with dancing girls and magicians.

Hrm - I might have tuned in if they had some dancing girls and magicians. Well maybe not - they’d probably get Susan Estrich and Helen Thomas.

FROM DU

a vast majority of red state bible-thumping, trailer park hicks are indubitably stupid. They see in Palin one of them -- husband with DUI, she with radical fundie views, a pregnant daughter. They like wars and warmongers because it gives them a testosterone kick the same way WWE or NASCAR do. Unless these people are educated, they will continue to rule us.

Liberalism is truly a mental disorder. This insight into this individual's mind is truly scary. It is almost a Nazi re-education camp philosophy.
