MSNBC gets worse spot than Al Jazeera (updated) September 4, 2008 at 6:53 pm by Irene Jay Liu

A random observation: NBC News has possible some of the worst seats in the house, tucked away so far to the side of the Xcel Energy Center that it has a partially obstructed view of the stage. To the right of NBC is Al Jazeera, which has a slightly better view of the stage.

MSNBC, which is affiliated with NBC, is widely considered to be the more liberal of the cable news networks (with Fox to the right, and CNN somewhere in the middle). Fox and CNN have equally-good press areas, mirroring each other on opposite sides of the stage.

The tension between the parties and the media has escalated over the past few days, as Republicans have accused the media of bias in its coverage of VP candidate Sarah Palin.

While having tense relations with the press is new for McCain, who has historically culitivated a very friendly and open with reporters, accusing the press of bias in the face of unfavorable coverage is common.

Clinton’s people did it during the Monica Lewinsky affair.

And the Bush administration lobbed similar accusations against the New York Times and the Washington Post when they published stories about the CIA’s secret prisons and domestic wire-tapping programs.

Update: I’m reminded that last night the audience chanted “NBC! NBC! NBC!” when GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin took swipes at the press, such as:

Here’s a little newsflash. Here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this great country. [standing ovation]

Did they have an adjoining door, just to keep the news reporting efficient?

No, but they shared a latrine to keep the news in the sewer.

Doubt it. I don't think Al Jazeera wanted any more damage to its reputation.

They awarded the spots based on their bias, Al Jazeera had the second to last spot, so....

MSNBC main problem is Olbermann...

I am actually interested in the analysis of liberals like Mathews, Tom, and middle grounders like Williams.

However, watching Olberman is like watching that bitter woman from Democracy Now

Why does Al Jazeera have a spot at all?

I lost what little respect I had for Brian Williams tonight.

He compared the beating and suffering that McCain experienced in Hanoi with the beatings he took in losing the 2000 primary to GW Bush.

Pathetic.

Listening to Matthews now...what a windbag
“Confessing Bush’s sins” No he’s not you idiot. He’s condemning those who are corrupt. President Bush is not corrupt.

Problem is, with their bad placement, the MSNBC logo blazed in the background whenever they showed a crowd member at left profile.

I don't know.... that PoS Olberman is destroying the network that is what it is....

They have to jettison Olberman. I do want liberal perspective; but I have trouble filtering it when it is so filled with bilge and crap that the little fool Olberman purges.

NBC/MSNBC was a left-leaning network.....then Tim Russert died and over the last 60-days MSNBC has been allowed to morph into radio Havana. Olberman would have fit in well as brother Fidel’s spokesman.

What was there has all gone downhill with Russert’s death. He was the only guy that kept that place respectable.......
