Behind Sarah Palin's smile is a savvy and fearless governor: Speech proves she's ready to rumble

Sarah Palin has turned the political world upside down. Less than a week after she was plucked from the back bench of the GOP, Palin wowed her party's convention last night and served notice that the presidential campaign is a whole new ballgame.

One minute she was a winning debutante, the next a tough hockey mom and always a fierce advocate for John McCain. She called herself a "gal" and was full of humor and bite, mocking Barack Obama's experience as a community organizer and even his eloquence. She used sarcasm, a baby-doll voice and a confident delivery in the speech of her life.

Hell, given the stakes and the doubts about her ability, it was one of the best political speeches of the year. She pulled it off like she was born for the moment.

Governor Sarah Palin entered the political ring last night like a determined prize fighter, teasing her opponent with well delivered jabs before placing a knockout blow directly on the chin. And she did it with candor and humor! A very risky tactic for such an important speech...had she failed she would have looked sophomoric, but no, she won the match effortlessly.

A lesser mortal might have come off angry after the smear campaign of liberal blogs and liberal media in the last few days, such as the despicable rumor that her unmarried 17-year-old daughter actually gave birth to their special needs baby (the Daily KOS). This shameful attack forced the Palin’s to disclose that their daughter is pregnant shutting up the Obama rumor mill for now-–the attacks backfired.

Rather than praising the Palin family for having values and not aborting, even though an abortion could have “saved face” of the conservative Governor of Alaska, had it been done secretly, the pathetic media attack her. You see, in Obama’s world if a young girl gets pregnant she should not be “punished” with a baby. The Palin’s consider the special-needs baby a very special blessing. How bizarre is that? A powerful accomplished woman with family values!

The media has been clearly knocked off balance based on such intelligent questions like: is she still breast feeding? How will she be able to breast feed their baby and campaign for VP? And from feminist organizations we hear only crickets!

By the way, if Obama was a conservative rather than a liberal, I imagine all the hype about the first African American president would be replaced by similarly pathetic attacks.

The Obama faithful media angered millions of thinking Americans by focusing on trivial personal issues e.g., their family’s ability to raise a special needs child, rather than praising such an accomplished woman who took down corrupt politicians of her own party. Like a true champion, Sarah Palin responded to the attacks with a most effective offense. Congratulations to a real superstar.

Up until last night the largest audience she'd spoken in front of was fewer than 800 people. And she had a baby 6 months ago - and a family crisis. And the teleprompter didn't work... I suspect Palin was born for the job.
