In a rousing speech at last night's Republican National Convention, vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, touted her record, attacked the opposition, and in some cases bent the facts.
PALIN: "[Obama] is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting, and never use the word 'victory' except when he's talking about his own campaign."
FACT: On July 15, in a speech in Washington, D.C., Obama twice used the word "victory" in reference to Iraq.
"In fact," he said, "true success in Iraq -- victory in Iraq -- will not take place in a surrender ceremony where an enemy lays down their arms. . . I want Iraqis to take responsibility for their own future, and to reach the political accommodation necessary for long-term stability. That's victory. That's success. That's what's best for Iraq, that's what's best for America, and that's why I will end this war as President.A week later in Berlin, Germany on July 23, Obama used the word "victory" three times to describe Allied successes during World War II....

As to cosponsoring some legislation with his senior Senator, Durbin, how many times has he mentioned that in stump speeches? Yes it's seared in our memory.
I would not be surprised if Obama had no role in crafting it but needless to say (and yes to some of our chagrin) McCain can claim many times over legislation he proposed or was the mainh co-sponsor.
As far as "contentious" legislation on racial profiling and recording of "potential death penalty" cases is nothing of great political risk in liberal Illinois/Chicago.
Without going any further the fact is that I haven't seen ABC slice-and-dice Obama's acceptance speech last year, I mean week. Or ever.
ABC and their Democrat Media Ilk really are beyond non-credible.
I could be wrong but I don't think America is fighting World War II at the present time.
Palin said wars America IS fighting. WWII is long over, so
FACT: talking about victory in WWII is not relevant to what Palin said.
Anyone also notice that the first date the reporter cites as ‘evidence’ is JULY 15, not even two months ago? On Iraq. How long has the surge been succeeding?
That’s far more damning to Obama than Palin.
This article is satire about how the media has gone from bias to having given up any pretense of intellectual honesty, right?
Without having read the thread, I’m sure many have already taken apart this article so I won’t bother.
"this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform -- not even in the state senate."
ABC FACT: The meaning of "major" is open to debate, but Obama worked with Republicans, including Sen. Richard Luger of Indiana, to pass legislation that would expand efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. While a state senator in Illinois, he sponsored two contentious bills, one that studied racial profiling by police and another that ordered interrogations in potential death penalty cases to be recorded.
Again, she said AUTHORED... Obama has not AUTHORED any laws yet.
PALIN: "I fought to bring about the largest private-sector infrastructure project in North American history. And when that deal was struck, we began a nearly $40 billion natural gas pipeline to help lead America to energy independence. That pipeline, when the last section is laid and its valves are opened, will lead America one step farther away from dependence on dangerous foreign powers that do not have our interests at heart."
(ABC) FACT: That infrastructure project has not yet been approved by Federal regulators. The proposed pipeline would ship natural gas from the Alaska's North Slope to homes and businesses across the U.S. In June, the Alaskan legislature, with Palin's prodding, agreed to pay Canadian energy company TransCanada $500 million as an incentive to build the pipeline.
She said she negotiated and struck the deal (nearly 40-years after discussions by the state of Alaska began), she didn't say Congress has approved it yet.
PALIN: While I was at it, I got rid of a few things in the governor's office that I didn't believe our citizens should have to pay for. That luxury jet was over the top. I put it on eBay. I also drive myself to work.
FACT: Soon after entering office, Palin put the state-owned Westwind II jet that her predecessor Frank Murkowski's purchased amid much criticism.(what? I think the ABC writer was trying to say she placed the plane on ebay). When the deal fell through with the sole eBay bidder, the plane was sold offline.
Alaskan businessman Larry Reynolds paid $2.1 for the jet after learning about it from Republican John L. Harris, speaker of the Alaskan House of Representatives.
So she did list it on ebay. Her speech didn't say it was sold on ebay)
Palin drives herself to work. In July, her Chevy Suburban was rear-ended while driving from Wasilla to her office in downtown Anchorage. (What the hell does this have to do with anything).
Obama defender? Bite your tongue! I’m for McCain. I was for McCain and bashing the McCain-hating-Romney-Supporters back then. Maybe you’ve confused me with someone!
I prefer to call it “Palin Madness Syndrome”
Why don’t these idiot reporters with nothing to do check every time Obama has said “I passed legislation on...”.
One legislator can’t pass anything, and to claim they do is arrogant in the extreme.
Whats this? The Obama can lie like a dog about McCain and sic the lieing liberal press on his running mate but No one can say anything about Obamer. Lol! And how dare them say anything about anyones pregnant daughter. How married were Obamas parents?
Picking nits comes to mind.
Obama: If they make a mistake, I dont want them punished with a baby.
It must be oh so difficult to find pro-Obama/anti-Palin garbage from the drive-by media.
I'm just wondering how long the moderators will allow it.
I think steve-b forgot a “barf alert” on this hit piece.
