“Axelrod defended Obama against one of Palin’s most biting lines, when she ridiculed a favorite part of Obama’s resume, saying: “I guess a small town mayor is sort of like a community organizer — except that you have actual responsibilities.””

It was that line that made me laugh out loud enough to wake my kids in the next room.

The trick here is to diminish Obama by baiting him into a back and forth over his experience versus Palin’s, when she isn’t the one he is running against. Certainly the gut response to being battered like that would be to say “She went to Idaho. I have degrees from Harvard and the U. of Chicago? I’m an intellectual blah blah” then add a bunch insults aimed at small-town, rural America. Wonder how that would go over in the swing states. Obama is trapped. Instead he has to send out Biden, who is already desperately trying to lower expectations for his debate performance after being touted as a clock cleaner. This is why Newt is smiling so much lately.
