Credit where it's due [Mark Steyn]
I would like to thank the US media for doing such a grand job this last week of lowering expectations by portraying Governor Palin - whoops, I mean Hick-Burg Mayor Palin - as a hillbilly know-nothing permapregnant ditz, half of whose 27 kids are the spawn of a stump-toothed uncle who hasn't worked since he was an extra in Deliverance.
How's that narrative holding up, geniuses? Almost as good as your "devoted husband John Edwards" routine?
I trust even now Maureen Dowd is working on a hilarious new column mocking proposed names for the Governor's first grandchild. Perhaps Richard Cohen can just take the week off and they can rerun his insightful analysis comparing the Palin nomination to Caligula making his horse a consul. Whereas we sophisticates all know that if McCain were as smart as Obama he'd have nominated a dead horse to be his consul. No wait...
They know that she connects with Americans and she might have Reagan’s ability to bypass the media entirely by ridiculing them...
I keep forgetting liberal elites know all there is to know - and those of us who are “the great unwashed” should accept what our betters are telling us...
What is truly astounding is that with this nomination an entire host of narratives that the Dems have spent decades establishing have come crashing down.
First is that the only place a woman is really taken seriously is in the Republican Party.
The second is that women are week and need affirmative action and feminism to get a head.
Third is the idea that Dems and the media support womens achievement and advancement that canard has been shattered.
I am sure there are more but the game has changed and they can no longer hide behind their false assumptions. They have been exposed for the frauds they always were.
Zell = Georgiacrat = Old School, For the Blue Collar worker, Conservative, Average American, Patriotic, Self-Sufficient, non-socialist Democrat...there’s few of them left nowadays.
Now you're getting to the real test. Can she bypass the media the way Ronald Reagan and Schwarzenegger did? I'm hoping she can but the media gets worse and worse each year. Becoming an armed phalanx protecting Obama and other liberal candidates
My bet is she will succeed at speaking over the heads of the media and get John McCain elected
****Not that I like Schwarzenegger much these days
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! The video came out perfect! Here’s the new link

Again...Thank You!
yw. I’ll give it a look during lunch.
I noticed that Rose’s face looked different on different nights, sometimes very baggy with dark circles around the eyes, sometimes more pulled up, but as an infrequent viewer I simply assumed facelifts. He’s developed a nasty habit of shaking his forefinger in guests’ faces, as if saying “shame on you.” Passing around shame and blame tends to go with alcoholism, doesn’t it?
I think elitists have difficulty getting/staying sober. After all, it would entail admitting they’re wrong.
You’re as clever as Sarah Palin!
Yeah-— He’ll get more bizzare each year but PBS will keep him on. I googled him on alcohol and could find nothing but I thought for years he sure looked it
Wow! Thank You! I could only wish to have half her brain.
I love Mark Steyn, really miss reading his articles.
Loved it, thank you for posting the link.
Glad you liked it.
Two More STEYNisms from NRO...
METROCON ALERT [Mark Steyn]
By the way, a propos the post below (Frum’s embarrassing one), I would caution our pal David Frum to ease up on this kind of analysis:
The Palin choice will intensify GOP support among downscale white voters - while adding to the GOP’s difficulties among more educated white voters.
You’d be surprised how crowded it is down at the “downscale” end.
FECUND IN COMMAND [Mark Steyn]
As National Review’s in-house demography bore, I’ve been struck this last week by the left’s fierce hostility to Sarah Palin’s fecundity. One gentleman - well, okay, maybe not a “gentleman” but certainly an impeccably sensitive progressive new male - wrote to me from Shelton, Washington:
This abortion prohibitionist hag wont cut it among women with brains. And BTW she is a good example of reproduction run amok. 5 kids; 1 retard. I wonder if the bitch ever heard of getting spayed.
Each to her own, Mister Sensitive. You can be a 44-year old mother of five expecting her first grandchild and serving as Governor of Alaska. Or you can be, like Martha Stewart’s daughter Alexis, a 43-year old single “career woman” hosting a satellite radio show and spending $28,000 a month on “intracytoplasmic sperm injection” in hopes of becoming pregnant. Every woman has the “right to choose” her own path through life, but it’s a lazy assumption to take for granted that most Americans find Sarah Palin’s choices as freakish as our metropolitan elites do.
What was it the feminists used to say? “You can have it all.” Sarah Palin is a mom, and the first female governor of her state. But the enforcers at the National Organization of Women dismiss her as “more a conservative man than she is a woman”.
Golly. These days, NOW seems to have as narrow and proscriptive a view of what women are permitted to be as any old 1950s sitcom dad.
I watched pmsnbc last night—1st time in 4 or 5 years— I was looking for a little shadenfreude, and I got it. As Mark Steyn has written, the media attack on Sarah backfired big time. I knew she would knock it out of the park (just as I know she will kick Biden’s ass when the time comes) and I wanted to see the nbc turds treatment of her speech. You could tell they were aghast and had turned very, very worried. All in all, it was a pretty nice feeling.
Camilio B_________ ?? vs. Emile Griffith?
Missing from this great photo: Sarahs son, who will be on active duty soon. Three of John McCain's sons, have have carried on the family military tradition, with Doug McCain serving as a Navy pilot, now out of the Navy, Jack McCain soon to graduate from the Naval Academy, and Jimmy McCain enlisting in the Marines at the age of 17. The latter returned home safely from his seven-month tour of duty in Iraq in February 2008
