I'm amazed though, from technical point of view, that a screw up like that could happen to this day and age.

Somewhere there's an hour long YouTube-like video floating around of Palin in the last debate for Alaska governor, against her Democrat (and former governor) opponent, and a third party opponent.
Imagine a barracuda in a school of salmon ;).
She'll do just fine!
