Glad to read of your trip to safety and back! And that you have heard from your husband. God bless you all!!!
Good to know you have another plan of action depending on what Ike does.
Take care and God bless and keep you!
lol!
It’s not a terrible theory, really. The practical aspects needed work, but he’s forgiven I’m sure. :)
When the gov’t keeps the evacuees away from their own homes for so long after a storm, dang right they’re less likely to want to leave next time. Especially after the storm itself didn’t pan out to being as destructive last time. New Orleans is going to have a tough time if Ike runs up their way. But yeah, Nagin is whining already...go figure.
Not true my man...you are wrong..you will see
Glad to learn that both you and the baby are OK and that you missed all the drama around central Louisiana during this past week. People in Alexandria have been referring to Gustav as “Our Katrina.” How bad did it look around Fort Polk when you came home? We’ve been eating MREs brought in by the Kansas National Guard. It’s a novelty for us, but it certainly makes you develop even more respect for our troops when you imagine what it’s like to eat them on a regular basis. Please thank your husband for his service to our country, and stay safe during Ike!
Thanks much for checking in. Glad to hear you are making sightseeing getaway plans out of hurricane evac situation. A great idea!
Hurricane Ike located in SE Bahamas, moving WSW at 15 mph.
Winds 135 mph, 948 mb.
Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center
and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 145 miles.
Thanx for the ping.

...while Nagin's statement gets worldwide attention:
"Our citizens are weary and they're tired and they have
spent a lot of money evacuating, some of them, from
Gustav. My expectations this time is, it will be very difficult to move
the kind of numbers out of this city that we moved during
Gustav."
I posted on this thread yesterday asking if anyone had heard from FReeper dougherty. To refresh your memory she was the young mother living outside Ft. Polk who was reluctant to evac for Gustav. I decided to send her an email and have received this reply from her. I wanted to share it with everyone:
I made it home today, we stayed in Palacios with my uncle and had a nice visit. I really missed my home though and didnt want to wear out my welcome so we came on home. I have heard about Ike and will definitely leave again if he is projected to hit Louisiana! Thanks for caring, I didnt feel so alone once I posted on here and could talk to people about Gustav.
Early reports from Grand Turk indicate 50-80% of homes on Turks & Caicos have lost roofs and/or been destroyed.
:o)
The soft bigotry of low expectations. Sigh.
Do it anyway, Nagin, you lump.
Moderator, please remove post 594. I see that doughtery has already posted her message here. Thx!
That's in the Turks and Caicos.
Continued prayers for all in harm's way.
Those poor people - prayers up for them.
Ike went through there as a cat4.
