If they can come up with an alternative to using lead, why is this so ridiculous???
Cost.
why is this so ridiculous???
Only you can answer that question to the satisfaction of those who believe in what freerepublic stands for. Let me just mention a few words, there are many more, bullets, sinkers chinese toys, paint, x-ray room walls racecar ballast. The point at which government’s intrusion into our way of life becomes “beyond ridiculous” varies with each person, but sooner or later you will reach your limit.
Not in the least cost effective.
While there will be some tiny benefit there is also a real expense. The alternatives are less desirable, or the market would embrace them without government compunction.
The “dollars per life saved” is probably in the billions. (Nuclear power plants have these kind of costs imposed on them routinely, which is one of the reasons that nuclear is expensive as it is.)
The argument that it is worth it, even if it saves a single life is specious. Money is life. Longevity correlates strongly with prosperity. We may not be able to identify how a particular life is saved, but every dollar left in the productive economy lowers mortality, taking them out raises it. This will almost undoubtly cost more lives than it saves.
Isn't there a finite amount of lead(Pb) in the world? It may change forms but if you don't make tire weights from it does it cease to exist?
What if we just agree to stop eating wheel weights?
Can't we just all get along?
Lead wasn't flown in from another planet.
It is here, it has always been here, it will always be here.
It is a "natural" resource (just like oil) and it should be used for the purposes it is, has been and is best suited for.
