[Full Metal Jacket actor Matthew] Modine: McCain was a bad P.O.W.!

We ran into actor Matthew Modine (remember "Full Metal Jacket"?!?) at Denver's La Rumba restaurant and, while the Obama supporter had plenty to say about John McCain's policies, he also had plenty of critiques of McCain's military service -- a topic that almost no one dares denounce.

"I mean, he got shot down three times!" said Modine, taking on one of McCain's most lauded personal accomplishments. "That's not success!" While on a bombing mission over North Vietnam, McCain was shot down and held as a prisoner of war. When McCain's father was named commander of U.S. forces in Vietnam, the future Arizona senator was offered an early release, but rejected it because his captors would not also released his fellow American P.O.W.s.

That kind of loyalty has earned McCain endless accolades, but Modine thinks that McCain's rejection of the release offer is yet another example of McCain's shortcomings. "And he wasn't even a good prisoner of war," said Modine. "He should have left as soon as he could. That's what you're supposed to do as a prisoner of war: Leave when you can. It defeats the enemy. It makes them look bad and it weakens them."

Mr. Modine, you worthless POS, you,

How dare you speak for the brave men that served in Vietnam. John McCain did his duty every day, and did it by the book (ref. Article III).

We didn't play soldier on a Hollywood set then go home to our girlfriends at night. We lived it! We had the real bullets fired at us, not the Hollywood special effects that were harmless. We lived in the mud, and the squaller, and the smoke, and the blood, and the screams, and the Hell every minute of every day. We never knew if we'd be alive the next day, but we kept fighting. We did it so that you could jump around a Hollywood set and play soldier.

So, Mr. Modine on behalf of John McCain and all Vietnam vets living and dead..STFU! You complete waste of tissue.

P.S. I'd love to slap that smerk clean off your face, a$$hole!

He is one of those that Hollywood turns to when nobody better will accept a roll. He lacks the ability to instill likeability or to inspire sympathy. In “Pacific Heights”, I found myself drawn to Michael Keaton’s character over his because, if for no other reason, Keaton is the much more talented actor. In “Married to the Mob” I cringed when he wound up with Michelle Pfeiffer because she deserved so much better. In “Memphis Belle” he delivered the best performance by a cardboard cutout. He does stand out in one repect, however. He is a lying, unpatriotic fool and has no more qualification to speak of military matters than Obama has to be president.

Honestly, I did not know this about Senator McCain. Thanks, Matthew, for bringing this to my attention. Got any more juicy tidbits you care to share? Now quoting from a real actor “What a maroon!”

I don't care a Tinker for McCain's politics but Modine is an Idiot. I doubt that clown has even met anyone who was a Nam POW. Nam was probably rougher than any POW camps or ran by the most ruthless. No Nam POW had the Geneva Convention protections. It was a farce. The Code of Conduct or Code such as it was then prohibited winning or exchanging any favors from the enemy.

I give this much to McCain as well he wasn't The Fortunate Son. He did his time in country and in actual combat. I do wonder how many minutes Modine could hold up to their interigation? Some POWs took it for years including a former C.O. of mine. Modine would likely be the Private Pyle of his unit and I don't mean Gomer but rather the character in the movie. His Bio say Private Joker. I think that was the clown who was the peace activist journalist. How Goreish of his character.

Doing what Modine says would have earned McCain a Court Martial. But then again so does killing our enemies so it seems.
