1. U.S. military service disproportionately attracts enlisted personnel and officerswho do not come from disadvantaged backgrounds. 2. Members of the all-volunteer military are significantly more likely to come from high-income neighborhoods than from low-income neighborhoods. 3.American soldiers are more educated than their peers. 4. Should be an episode of "Mythbusters"
“Contrary to conventional wisdom, minorities are not overrepresented in military service”
...except in pictures of BO and the troops in Iraq. It was rather startling to see the monochrome quality of the photos.
YEP and what are their political opinions?
Many democrats??It worths knowing
I would think that the opportunity of advancing your education while in the service has a greater appeal to those who wish a higher education. The inner city kid is not motivated to get a higher education and has enough problems trying to get motivated to find a job due to their lack of education. I see now that the Army is providing them a chance to get their HS diploma while serving. My son enlisted to get the training and advanced education offered through the campus of U Michigan. After serving his tour he intended to go back in the civilian sector with a MA degree in Computer engineering. I don’t think its all about patriotism, its a resume builder too.
Hmmm... the stats look a very iffy to me. Why are they using neighbourhood income levels for the enlisted personnel and not family income levels like for the officers? Similarly why is the percentage of hispanics not listed in the enlisted table like it is for the officers? Also, the heading of chart 3 says that “Enlisted recruits in 2007 outperformed the U.S. population in three of the four scoring categories”. This is simply false because those taking the AFQT are not a random sample from the population.
Yes, a bit iffy. But your questions are answered in the full article.
Um, because a LT gets paid about twice as much as an E-1. The LT is middle-class out of the gate. And most enlisted come right out of high school. What income are they supposed to have? If you looked at it that way they would all be poor when they came in.
good one, lol
but this is like most urban legends that no matter if obama himself said this, the “victimized” still wouldn’t believe it
ping
Only 1.4 percent of enlisted recruits in 2007 had not graduated from high school or completed a high school equivalency degree, compared to 20.8 percent of men ages 18 to 24. Americas soldiers are less likely than civilians to be high school dropouts.

ONE OF EVERY FIVE AMERICAN MEN 18-24 IS A HS DROP OUT!
We are in deep DEep kaka.
I wonder what percentage are illegal immigrants.
Enlisted military: Montana #1, North Dakota #50.
And they are neighbors.
