illigitmacy, in legal context, is when the child is born and the mother is unmarried and the father is unknown.
most consider illigitimate simply being unmarried at birth.
HOWEVER, when the mother marries the father or someone who is willing to declare he is the father, then the birth is legitimate.
In palin’s case, the child is going to be a legitimate birth.

"Illegitimacy" would only be an issue if the couple weren't married when the baby was born. From reports, that is not going to happen.
Young people making babies, and then marrying, is a story as old as human-kind, and those who go too far in denigrating such a situation may be surprised as to who takes offense.
I *did* respect Obama for saying "Kids are out of bounds", or some such. He has that particular priority in order, at least.
That is the reaction that was ‘counted on.’ McCain’s base channelling their ‘inner Church Lady.’ Instead, the reaction is most consistantly, ‘THIS IS NONE OF MY DAMN BUSINESS.’

Kind of reminds me of when the story hit that two Georgia boys found a Bigfoot body. It took a just few minutes of google searching for even the most wishful Bigfoot enthusiast, much less the skeptics, to discover their connection to a known hoaxer and inconsistencies in their claims. Even a youtube video admitting to the hoax. A few minutes of searching.
The media seemed to be the only ones taken in by it. What are they teaching in Journalism class these days? Grab a headline, don’t dig for facts, just make it interesting.
This same type of Journalism I see covering Palin. They are pandering to the new news audience, the multitude hooked on Reality TV.

You also wrote, "...illegitimacy is a sign of social decline." When the baby is born, s/he will not be illegimate as the parents will be married by then. Things like this happened today as well as in the past.
