This is 1960-1961. That is the period to which this sub-discussion of Obama's mom is referring. And to speak of that time, about that time especially in this particular case without reference to the term "negro" would be misleading. Obama's Dad was very black, he was an exotically negro man even in the islands exotic of Hawaii. Negro was also the term of pride then -- like black is now.
