Buchanan is despicable in many ways. One is the way he tends to waaaay overstate (lie about) his roles in previous Republican administrations.
The article refers to his campaign stop in Alaska in July 1999, when he was the Reform Party standard bearer. (Like locusts, he and his sister gutted that party, stripping it of its funds and credibility.)

i wouldn’t be surprised if she was at the fundraiser, but I’d be surprised if Buchanon knows whether she gave any money, much less whether she raised money for him from others (which I presume is what a “bridagier” is).
I presume she is denying it because it is false. You certainly don’t want her “admitting” something that isn’t true just because it might help.
