...at which point the Washington State courts (Democrats, of course) shut off the recounts, and declared her the winner.

Not true. I was the one who posted daily threads on FR about the recount.

Rossi won the official count and also the machine recount. The Democrats paid for a hand recount and won when all those "missing" ballots from dead voters came out of unsecured warehouses in King County.

The litigation of the election challenge went to a judge who was a political independent, a strict constructionist, and who upheld the Washington state election contest law, which sets a very high barrier to challenging individual votes. Under the law, the judge's decision was correct, even though it did not produce the decision Republicans wanted.

Thanks! What an excellently written summary of a very complex and frustrating event. I concur with your description.

There was talk of changing election laws in Washington. I know they tried to clean up the rolls a bit but I don’t think the laws themselves were changed, were they?

On an unrelated topic: what do you think of the top two primary system? This (August) primary was the first time I’ve voted using it.

All true, though finding out how artificially (some may say criminally) high that bar was explosively FUBAR.

I'm not concerned about Rossi. We know who he is, we know what he will do for this state, and when the citizens of this state see how much better off we are after his 1st term, his endorsement will mean a great deal to a conservative candidate.

If he has to distance himself from Bush & McCain to get his office back, he's doing no worse than 1/2 or more FReepers.

As far as I'm concerned, if he handed out zig zags with his picture on it while wearing cinderella slippers and a tutu while doing the waltz with Rudy Guliani at Hempfest, I don't care as long as he wins King County, gets that witch out of the capitol, reduces the budget to pre Gargoyle figures, then bans both Hempfest and Rudy.

He can keep the slippers and tutu, to be worn by any congress critter proposing a tax raising bill while trying to sell it to the public on TV.
