ABC News' George Stephanopoulos reports: Democrats' attacks on her family's wealth are unfair and offensive, Cindy McCain said today in an interview airing tomorrow on "This Week with George Stephanopoulos."
For nearly two weeks, Democrats have repeatedly hit Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., for saying he is unaware of how many houses he owns, calling the presumptive Republican presidential nominee out of touch with everyday Americans. In his acceptance speech at the Democratic convention on Thursday, Democratic nominee Barack Obama turned up the heat on McCain, saying he "doesn't know" about the lives of middle-class Americans.
"I'm offended by Barack Obama saying that about my husband," said McCain's wife Cindy. When asked if Obama went too far in his criticism of McCain, Cindy responded, "I do. I do. I really do."
McCain also said beer the distributorship her father built, which is the source of much her family's wealth, typifies the American Dream.
"My father had nothing. He and my mother sold everything they had to raise $10,000," she said. "I'm proud of what my dad and my mother did and what they built and left me. And I intend to carry their legacy as long as I can."
More of the exclusive interview with Cindy McCain airs tomorrow on "This Week."
UPDATE: The Obama campaign is not backing down. "The fact that John McCain does not know how many houses he owns when millions are struggling to stay in the only house they have shows he's out of touch with the lives of real Americans," said Obama spokeswoman Linda Douglass Saturday afternoon. "McCain is promising to double down on the economic policies of George W. Bush which have benefited corporations and CEO's while leaving middle-class families behind. John McCain just doesn't get it."
Typifies the American MAN'S Dream: marry a beautiful rich girl who's dad owns a beer distriburship!
McCain often pick's his political positions poorly, but picks his women quite well (Cindy & Sarah)!
:^)
So what else is new Cindy? This isn’t new to me Im offended by him even more.
And I'm sure Michelle Obama isn't crazy about what McCain's saying about her husband, either. Get used to it, ladies.
Oh the shame of it. It's a sad day when success is considered evil.
Even bring in the arguments that use of such drugs can and does damage human chromosomes, and Obama has already bequeathed a damaged genome to his little girls, and lord only knows what will happen to them as the ravages of their father's narcotics abuse takes its toll.
That would be a good start of course. No doubt others can think of more stuff to load on him.
...meanwhile, Michelle Obama in an unrelated event said,
“I’m proud of the legacy Barack and Tony Rezko built and I intend to live in it for as long as I can!”
I wish McCain would come right out and say, “My opponent seems to have a problem with me investing in American real estate. Well, ya know what? I just bought three more homes this morning as investments. One in Detroit, one in Youngstown, and one in Scranton. I believe that makes twelve, Barack, since you are counting. Why? Because unlike Barack Obama I believe in this country and I know that when I take office, I am going to work hard to help these industrial towns and others like them, full of hard working Americans, to begin to realize their potential that has been squashed by political corruption, wasteful spending and over-taxing. And I have just the running mate to help me fo just that. Oh yeah, I am looking for some good renters if you know any. “ grin.
The rats fight back:
“Husband of veep choice is snowmobile racer! “
They are jealous!
Cindy should have said:
“John knows exactly how many houses we own. He was just reluctant to say because he was concerned that Obama would send William Ayers over to blow them up!!”
Obama is playing hardball politics. Don't expect him to let up.
And again we haven’t even TOUCHED him on the issues. So far it’s just mostly making fun of his celebrity and standard “tough” commercials. Wait till the 527s launch a Wright swing par excellence. The NRA has earmarked millions for swing states. I’m sure the Club for Growth will as well. We have only heard the beginning of Ayers.
Palin's selection as the VP is more than the Hussein Obama camp expected. They wanted a Washington insider who they could apply their play book to when going on the attack. This is a lose/lose situation for them.
Rove, "you magnificent bastard"
By that she means the Dems saying JM is out of touch with Americans because he doesn't know how many houses he owns.
If that offends her, then she better grow a set soon because the election sheit hasn't even begun to fly.
So did Obama pick bin Biden because he is house poor?
I wish the lame-stream media, or somebody, would please ask them to explain exactly how this shows that McCain is out of touch with "real" Americans, because I sure don't see it!
“I’m offended by Barack Obama saying that about my husband,” said McCain’s wife Cindy.
Don’t feel bad Mrs McCain.
I am an American and Obama offends me just by being here and seeking to destroy my Country...
Screw Obama and his marxists....home owners pay ‘property taxes, income taxes, provide homes so others may rent, hire maintenance to service those homes and create some family wealth so they don’t have to burden the government asking for welfare. Many of these hypocrite liberal pols have luxurious mansions if they want to play the class warfare game. I so despise them all.
