Barack Obama and Me (Obama's State Legislative "Experience" = bill jacking?)
Houston Press ^ | 02-28-08 | Todd Spivak

It's not quite eight in the morning and Barack Obama is on the phone screaming at me. He liked the story I wrote about him a couple weeks ago, but not this garbage.

Now here he is blasting me from hundreds of miles away for a story that just went online but hasn't yet hit local newsstands.

It's a lengthy record filled with core liberal issues. But what's interesting, and almost never discussed, is that he built his entire legislative record in Illinois in a single year.

Republicans controlled the Illinois General Assembly for six years of Obama's seven-year tenure. Each session, Obama backed legislation that went nowhere; bill after bill died in committee.

[Emil] Jones had served in the Illinois Legislature for three decades. He became Obama's kingmaker.

Jones appointed Obama sponsor of virtually every high-profile piece of legislation, angering many rank-and-file state legislators who had more seniority than Obama and had spent years championing the bills.

"I took all the beatings and insults and endured all the racist comments over the years from nasty Republican committee chairmen," State Senator Rickey Hendon, ...legislation yanked away by Jones and given to Obama, complained to me at the time. "Barack didn't have to endure any of it, yet, in the end, he got all the credit.

"I don't consider it bill jacking," Hendon told me."But no one wants to carry the ball 99 yards..."

During his seventh and final year in the state Senate, Obama's stats soared. He sponsored a whopping 26 bills passed into law — including many he now cites in his presidential campaign when attacked as inexperienced.

It was a stunning achievement that started him on the path of national politics — and he couldn't have done it without Jones.

Article from earlier this year. But since Obama likes to raise the experience issue now with Palin, this seems like a relevant article. As we know, Barack's Executive experience is zero and it looks like his legislative experience is not much better. Well, Obama did have leadership experience as Chairman of the Board on the Annenberg education project working with Weather Underground founder Bill Ayers, but that was a failure as well ($100MM+ spent with what appears to be no real results).

The article is a great read. It is a little long. I only pulled relevant legislative experience pieces.

(This may be a repost, but I did a search and could not find it)

"He said, 'Cliff, I'm gonna make me a U.S. Senator.'"

"Oh, you are? Who might that be?"

"Barack Obama."

O-Boy is a Manchurian Candidate if there ever was one.

Why is our "adversarial press" so not interested in finding out who is pulling his strings?

And how charming that he calls a reporter and ‘screams’ at him! Is that how he’s going to handle Ahmanutjob?

“And how charming that he calls a reporter and ‘screams’ at him!”

Obama is still doing it...

“Supporters of Barack Obama made thousands of calls and sent thousands of e-mails Wednesday in an organized campaign to intimidate a Chicago radio station – WGN-AM – into canceling the appearance of a conservative writer on one of its long-time popular talk shows.”
