Why not poll likely voters?
I don’t put much stock in Gallup polls. They’ve got a political agenda.
Terrible news for Obama. Clearly a good polling day for McCain considering the 27th and 28th samples have Obama by 7-10 points.
In a rolling poll after the convention, Obama should of opened to atleast 10-12 here.
How many here were called & polled? We weren’t!
This is the first polls I have seen in few days, which leads me to believe that liberals in the MSM are not reporting the results becuase its not good news for Obama.
Sorry personally I never believe Gallup anymore.
Rasmussen already has him back down to 3.4% and his Electoral college advantage is down to a new low of 10 EV’s. This is not good coming out of his convention. Horrible, actually.
If you look at all the polls all year, Obama is up about 3 points all through this whole thing. Not much has changed. McCain and Palin have to have a good convention and not mess up the debates. If may be every bit as close as the last two elections in the end. Palin is going to gain McCain a few votes, and lose him maybe a very few. Biden won’t affect things.
God have mercy.
I think I heard Rush say that if Obama didn’t get at least a 12 point obunce, he was screwed. I think by Monday this lead will be greatly neutralized!
With likely voters, Obama is probaby up 3%
Lets see the polls next Friday. If Sara & McCain are within the MOE, then the debates will mean a lot.
Eight points is the best the Obamessiah could do coming off of the convention? Even Bush 41 got a 9 point bounce when all he did was announce Dan Quayle as his running mate...
As the surveys conducted two and one days ago roll off the rolling sample, I believe the margin would fall to 3 points even if the Republicans weren’t having their convention. With the Republican convention, I suspect McCain will be up by 3 points in five or six days.
I read a post where rass have obama up by 3 or 4. This race is over. McCain/Palin by ten. Obviously we cannot underestimate the fact that the media whores are going to do all they can to push obama over the finish line. But we cannot underestimate the fact that obama and biden are condescending idiots either. I don’t like McCain, he was certainly not on my short or long list to be president. But the guy is smart, and after saddleback I’m convinced he won’t have any senior moments. And he can keep the mean old john under wraps through the debates.
Gallup over-samples Democrats and he polls registered, rather than likely, voters. Rasmussen is more accurate. IIRC, Ras had The Oh up one or three yesterday, not eight.
dissapointing....
Yeah, but even though it’s registered voters, it’s still a damn big eight points.
The problem biggest problem is McCain’s ceiling. In the Gallup poll, I’m fairly certain he’s only cross the 45% barrier once and most of the time hes sitting around 43-44%. Conversely, Obama has consistently been in the mid to high 40’s since June. The difference is irrelevant, and you can chalk it up to the kind of background noise that affects a campaign in the short-term, but does nothing in the long-term.
The fact of the matter is that unless McCain can significantly improve his polling numbers to get them into the high 40’s, much like Bush did in August of 04...its going to be tough sledding.
