France will not seek to impose sanctions against Russia over the current Russia-Georgia conflict at the European Union summit scheduled for Monday in Brussels, French media cited a source from the Elysee as saying.

"We are now in dialogue with Moscow, not in the phase of sanctions," the source was quoted by AFP as saying on Friday. Time for sanctions "is certainly not coming," it said.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy, whose country is now holding the rotating presidency of the European Union, called a special summit in Brussels to discuss the Russia-Georgia crisis and the future relationship between Russia and the EU.

Governor Palin may not have any or little experience of foreign affairs - BUT SHE IS RIGHT! Just like another former governor who had to face down the Russians - though they were called the Soviets at that time.

It was reported on another thread that Putin had advised that Russian gas and oil pipelines to Europe should prepare for a shutdown as early as Monday. It looks that the mere suggestion is enough to put the EU back on its heels. Appeasement will reap the usual rewards. Georgia, Ukraine, Armenia, Poland and Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania had better decide what they need to do without backing from Western Europe. Azerbaijan and the former Soviet ‘stans will also reevaluate their relationship to the West. The parallels to Europe in the 1930ies are truly frightening.
