Rasmussen’s methodology provides a very good look at trends and responses to events.

Unfortunately, there was no change in Obama’s 4% lead last night.

That is a multiday moving average so we do not know if the oldest day was very strong for Obama, and last night strong for McCain yielding a net neutral result. But we do know it was net neutral.

Palin’s announcement probably did trample on any uptick that would have occurred from his speech, but we do not yet know if PUMA polling respondents moving to McCain were obscured by some strong Obama polling result on the oldest day of moving average.

A 4% lead is not much to brag about. The Democrats had their convention and it was a dud. The GOP will have theirs and they can move into the lead. If that 4% lead was real, the MSM and the Drivebys would be writing about it, not about Sarah Palin. I don't belive its even 4%! If anything, Obama's strength has been overestimated!

I can see where an Obama fan like yourself would say no change is unfortunate.

For people rooting for McCain, that news is EXCELLENT. That means Obama got no further bounce at all after his big speech.

It also means that as the big Obama days roll off the poll, we should see the race move to (at worst) a tie again by Tuesday or Wednesday.

I could not be happier about the Rasmussen poll results.
