Profile of Alaska's Sarah Palin: Governor, Reformer, Mother
Wall Street Journal ^ | August 29, 2008 | JIM CARLTON

When a hockey mom named Sarah Palin ran for governor as a Republican outsider in 2006, she took on not only a sitting governor from her own party but also Alaska's Republican establishment -- vowing to clean up a political system that had been rocked by an Federal Bureau of Investigation corruption probe.

After handily winning, her popularity in Alaska soared as she went on to sack political appointees with close ties to industry lobbyists and shelved pork projects. Gov. Palin has shown similar fearlessness in going after Big Oil, whose money has long dominated the state. She appears, for example, to have forced Alaska's dominant oil producers, ConocoPhillips and BP PLC, to finally get serious about a natural-gas pipeline -- without making any tax or royalty concessions.

Looks like the lady ran up a lot of real executive experience in a very short time.

Yes, a lot of accomplishments when Obama can’t name any! She is going to do very well.

She is definitely photogenic. I do not have a TV but I suspect she is equally telegenic.

I think that she projects a positive image which includes honesty, believability, trustworthiness. She does not have the "polish" of a Ronald Reagan -- yet. Yes, I would buy a used car from her; but, as Reagan said, "Trust but verify." She's not going to get a free pass and I don't think that that will be a problem for her.

Her story boosts that positive image.

The campaign would do very well to feature her in ads that have her speaking over the heads of the MSM employees.

If her speaking improves as much as Hillary's improved -- watch out! Here comes Ronda Reagan?

Its supposed to be common news but I fail to see any news of this outside of Alaska, but she signed it and it passed that all Alaskans that qualified for the Permanent Fund Dividend and will receive each an estimated $2300 royalty check from oil profits (a record amount) will also receive courtesy of Sarah Palin an additional $1200 per each member of the household an energy incentive to pay for skyrocketing fuel prices.

She will take care of Alaskans and I have no doubts she will clean house if elected and if she cannot get gas prices down then she will make sure all Americans get a rebate check. Not a promise but a threat, either way big oil will share its profits.

Well not any he wants anyone to know about.

There are a few he would like not to be generally known by the voting public such as his Annenberg Challenge Grant business.

One thing to note about the troopergate ordeal is that Palin offered (Monegan, the head of the Public Safety Commisssion) another position (as head of the state liquor control board) which he refused. It doesn’t sound much like a vendetta against Monegan if she offered him another post. It sounds exactly like what she stated, that she didn’t like the direction he was taking as head of Public Safety. She may have pressured him to relieve the trooper who was married to her younger sister but the guy was a psycho. Admitting to tasering his stepson and Palin said he also threatened to put a bullet in her dad. Definitely not someone who should be wearing a badge.

I don't think anybody should be fooled by the pretty face. I feel that this lady can be tough as nails. "Misunderestimating" her would be a mistake.

This is a great selection by McCain. To begin, it has brought much needed media attention and energy to his ticket. She is very "Middle America", and appeals to regular folk. She has also got conservatives excited about the McCain ticket.

U.S. Representative, Heather Wilson, On The Selection Of Gov. Sarah Palin

Heather: “You know, Governor Palin has more executive experience than Senator Obama, Senator Biden, and Senator Schumer combined because those guys have never run anything. So I find that quite amusing.”

“I was very disappointed with Senator Obama’s choice of a running-mate. He chose somebody else who’s a Washington insider from the East Coast who knows nothing about the west and Senator McCain surely does. I’m also very pleased that he’s chosen as his vice president, the chief executive of the oil producing state in America, strong energy credentials and the energy issue is very important to Americans.”

Bravo Zulu Heather! Sarah Palin has more executive experience than Snowbami, Biden, Pelosi, Reid, Boxer and most of the rats in congress combined.

Is it working? Check these poll results:

Looking at the latest numbers at Real Clear Politics here:

You can see that McCain shaved 4 points off Obama’s bounce.
