How Palin Will Help McCain
Townhall.com ^ | August 29, 2008 | Jerry Bowyer

It’s a big day for John McCain. It’s a big day for Sarah Palin. And it’s a big day for CNBC and Larry Kudlow of CNBC’s Kudlow & Company. The vast majority of mainstream media hovered like flies around Tim Romnlenty (or is it Mitt Pawmney?). This is about the biggest case of received-wisdom-wrong-again in my memory. A small number of big-time media outlets were talking about Palin, and probably none of them was further out ahead on this one than Kudlow. Guys, take a victory lap. I may take one myself.

Now, what does it mean. It means that drill, drill, drill gets stronger. Sarah knows this stuff inside and out. She can back McCain in the defense of drilling, transporting and refining oil. She puts ANWR back on the map. Who knows it better than the governor of Alaska?

The delegates may have been unified last night, but the party isn’t. Women feel dissed, and why shouldn’t they? They went majority for Hillary. She lost largely because the party threw out the Michigan and Florida votes (until Obama was a foregone conclusion).

Forget this nonsense about how women are natural parts of the democratic party because it supports ‘equal pay’ for ‘comparable’ work. Women have become the emerging center of American entrepreneurship. They start business at twice the rate of men. I should know, I’m married to a brilliant lady entrepreneur (for whom I work). They know about capital gains taxes, and s-corporations. They sweat the details of payroll withholding taxes. They won’t be easy to fool into believing that a hike in the top tax bracket won’t really be a tax hike on entrepreneurs.

Also forget the nonsense about women and abortion. Women are by and large a more pro-life demographic than men. In fact the most pro-choice group is young, single men (gee, I wonder why?). Who better to make this case than Sarah Palin who just brought Trig into the world this past April, her beautiful little Down’s Syndrome boy.

Add the Palin choice to the fact that the drilling moratorium ends roughly a month before the election, and you get an election that will largely be about, drill, drill, drill. Sounds pretty good to me.

Provided of course the Republicans don’t figure out a way to blow this.

This is what the dems don't get--she'll be answering questions about drilling, while the MSM lapdogs will ask questions about "experience". Hopefully she'll say "Can you ask a question with some relevence to the American people?"

I’m watching CNN this morning and they’re getting the drumbeat going that she lacks the experience to take over if McCain falters. No mention that her experience is comparable to Obama who will be president from day one if elected. They must think we’re all stupid and can’t draw that parallel. I hope they keep it up. Every time they say Palin doesn’t have the experience folks are going to be thinking “Hmm, what about that Senator from Illinois?”

Her presence in the race will jam the narratives the media wanted to tell.

They’re going to come across as very chauvinistic. “ He’s a man, so he’s obviously qualified. She’s a woman, how could she possibly be qualified?”

” Hopefully she’ll say “Can you ask a question with some relevence to the American people?”

True but than be able to answer ques that will be relevant to us Mom’s.

The average Mom doesnt hunt caribou in the morning bring it home and than play basketball in the afternoon and make moose stew at night :)

The average Mom doesn’t relate to being beauty queens,so my suggestion is to play that all down some what and point out what the average Mom wants to hear, how she will help us raise our families, we are already raising them with conservative VALUES, now she needs to tell us how we can afford to stay at home and raise our families and how we can handle our budgets with the falling dollar, how we can fill the SUV gas tanks so we can take our sons and daughters to soccer practice or hockey practice.

These are the things that matter most to us the average American Mom and wife raising our families.

Mccain as a hawk just tells us how he loves wars.
I salute her and her son and thank them and all Mom’s who’s sons have served their country but we want to hear her plans to protect our great country.

It’s things like this that will make women secure enough to vote for her because she is on the ticket, remember Mccain did not energize the woman’s vote and she is part of HIS administration.

Women like Kelly Ann are good spokeswomen for the party but they need better talking points than just saying that all women will now vote for the ticket because there is a woman on that ticket. DON’T use the libs talking points the way they did, they thought they would get the vote just because it was a woman who was running for President. Well surprise look what happened.

I would hate for this to just be a carbon copy of the libs campaign of race and gender!!

It's not about her having the same schedule as an average mom--it's about having a lifestyle that allows her to RELATE. Her life experience is such that she knows what it means to meet a budget without millions, deal with five kids, play sports as opposed to hanging with rich "community activists" at wine and cheese bashes.

how she will help us raise our families

That's not her job. That's yours.

That's not the function of the government. It is the job of mothers and fathers to raise their families. The government needs to stay out of the way.

“That’s not her job. That’s yours.”

When I said how she will help I meant that in a different way,(not worded correctly as sometimes I have difficulty espressing myself)I mean what are her views on the economy and how we can balance the budget and afford the high gas prices etc.

Amazing how with all I posted just a few words were taken out and commented on.

I meant we are concerned about our budgets, gas prices, and all the things that concern families these days, you all are very defensive and need to read all the post not take out just a few words.

The original post was not "just a few words". It was a healthy paragraph that effectively expressed the liberal view of government. Conservatives here on Free Republic are not "defensive" in pointing out that this philosophy does not agree with that of traditional conservatism.

Not all women who have conservative values should be labeled as libs because they are concerned about family budgets.

That’s ridiculous and short sighted.

Go on the boards were the average American Mommy posts, we do have conservative values but ARE concerned about our budgets so don’t try to label us libs because we have normal concerns. Not every conservative is wealthy and doesn’t have to worry about their budgets.

I don't know what boards you're talking about, but this is a political discussion forum.

Per its founder, Jim Robinson:

We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty."

Valid concerns. Look for info on the Internet and see if you can find out more about where she stands. This may be of help - http://www.ontheissues.org/Sarah_Palin.htm

It's light on details, but I am sure there is more material out there to reference. Here's a wikipedia page on her- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Palin... under Budget, it notes that "In June 2007, Palin signed into law a $6.6 billion operating budget—the largest in Alaska's history.[50] At the same time, she used her veto power to make the second-largest cuts of the construction budget in state history. The $237 million in cuts represented over 300 local projects, and reduced the construction budget to nearly $1.6 billion."

Do you mean the gov't budget, or our personal household budget?

More from the wikipedia page-—

Energy and Environment

Palin has strongly promoted oil resource development in Alaska,[30] and also helped pass a tax increase on oil company profits.[25][26] Palin has announced plans to create a new sub-cabinet group of advisors to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within Alaska.[31]

Shortly after taking office, Palin rescinded 35 appointments made by Murkowski in the last hours of his administration, including that of his former chief of staff James “Jim” Clark to the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority.[32][33] Clark later pleaded guilty to conspiring with a defunct oil-field-services company to channel money into Frank Murkowski’s re-election campaign.[34]

In March 2007, Palin presented the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act (AGIA) as the new legal vehicle for building a natural gas pipeline from the state’s North Slope.[35] This negated a deal by the previous governor to grant the contract to a coalition including BP (her husband’s former employer). Only one legislator, Representative Ralph Samuels, voted against the measure,[36] and in June, Palin signed it into law.[37][38] On January 5, 2008, Palin announced that a Canadian company, TransCanada Corp., was the sole AGIA-compliant applicant.[39][40] In August 2008, Palin signed a bill into law giving the state of Alaska authority to award TransCanada Pipelines a license to build and operate the $26-billion pipeline to transport natural gas from the North Slope to the Lower 48 through Canada.[41]

In response to high oil and gas prices, and the resulting state government budget surplus, Palin proposed giving Alaskans $100-a-month energy debit cards. She also proposed providing grants to electrical utilities so that they would reduce customers’ rates.[42] She subsequently dropped the debit card proposal, and in its place she proposed to send Alaskans $1,200 directly, paid for from the windfall surplus the state is getting because of the high oil prices.

In 2007, Palin approved a $150 cash incentive to aerial gunner-pilot teams for each Alaskan wolf they kill.[44] The incentive was called a “bounty” for killing wolves by Alaska Wildlife Alliance Director John Toppenberg.[44] She agreed with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to allow Alaska state biologists to hunt wolves from helicopters as part of a “predator control” program which was allowed under a provision in a 35-year-old federal ban on the practice granting 700 permits to the state of Alaska.[45] The program was heavily criticized by Defenders of Wildlife and predator control opponents,[45] and prompted California State Representative George Miller to introduce a federal bill making the practice illegal.[45] In March 2008, a federal judge upheld the practice of hunting wolves from the air, but limited its extent.
