McCain has thrown the election. It is clear now with his choice for Vice President that he has no desire to win in November. Why else would he chose an inexperienced woman, whose only apparent qualification is that she won a beauty pageant in the 1980s? Why else would he refuse to say Barack Hussein Obama’s middle name? Why else would he run an ad praising Obama and congratulating him for winning the nomination?
If McCain had chosen Mitt Romney, a man with real leadership ability, real charisma, and real experience, he might have stood a chance. He could have made up for his lack of energy in confronting his opponent, his useless pandering to liberals, and his refusal to expose Obama’s leftism and inexperience. Instead he trumped inexperience with more inexperience. Obama, for all his far-left socialism, picked a running mate who is perceived as giving the ticket more experience. McCain, in defiance of all logic, undermined his strong suit by selecting a political neophyte who waters down his key advantage over Obama.
Of course, I can hear the calls already. Mike, you should give her a chance, she’s a real conservative. Mike, he’s just doing this because he knows he has to pander to win. Mike, isn’t it great that he picked a woman. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Picking someone because of their sex instead of their ability is the same kind of affirmative action insanity that the Democrats have shoved down our throats. I sent a complaint letter to KCMO-710AM here in Kansas City to try and get them to snag Mark Levin sted of the Weiner. To no avail. I simply turn off Savage at 5:00 and go with the local talk show on KMBZ. Savage is savagely ignorant for a (Did I tell you I have a PhD in Nutrition?) doctor. I actually think he has a brain tumor or something. His actions and discussions are pretty strange for someone who claims to be so intelligent.

Savage is about as relevant to this election as George McGovern.

Yeah, so basically the Sunday morning talk show thread turned into one giant charlie foxtrot of a flame war with McCainiacs, after somebody dissed calcowgirl, and I wandered on in.
I'd rather vote for Palin/McCain (reverse order intentional) than McCain/Palin, and that FR remains an independent conservative Web forum and not an extension of the RNC's PR/propaganda division.
Yeah, I tend not to wander into an active discussion thread when it already has 1,000-1,200 posts before I’ve arrived. By that time, there’s nothing that hasn’t already been said.

It's as bad as the recall threads if you simply post a quote from the man's own mouth.
I got in around the 500-600 post range and found calcowgirl fending off McCainiacs talking about how her "dour energy" was screwing with their "positive energy" (or some other liberal excrement).
That would certainly eliminate that "isolationist" label!

Ugh. What’s important is that McCain’s feet be held to the fire. Just because he did something smart with selecting Gov. Palin doesn’t give him carte-blanche to embark on a liberal RINO (”post-partisanship”) crusade. Palin should also not feel cowed in standing up to him when he does wrong, either.
American in Tokyo is just being absurd. Principled opposition to specific McCain positions will always be part of FR. AIT is just annoyed that McCain actually did sometihg to further conservatism by putting Sarah Palin forward. Some folks just have to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Yes, and that is best accomplished by making lots of noise. Politicians only act when they are scared, and while McCain himself probably does not read FR, I would not at all be surprised if his campaign and office staffers do.
Shutting up and giving McCain a carte blanche is not the way to go. If he wins, and he probably will, now, with the Palin pick, he must be checked at all turns by angry conservatives so that he stays in line. If conservatives stay docile like we did with Bush, then nothing will happen...well, except for the passage of amnesty, carbon cap-and-trade, bailouts galore, and all sorts of other Democrat/liberal tomfoolery.
And for gosh sakes, keep him away from Lieberman, Graham, and Kennedy...whenever those guys get together, you know something nasty is going to come out.
I suppose that the above facts explain the presence of all the McCainiac mugwhores on FR. But I digress.
I agree with you on the feet being held to the fire. Unfortunately, that is the way I felt with Bush, too (before NCLB, Medicare Part D, etc). The reaction at FR was quite different, as it was with Schwarzenegger when he launched his liberal programs. The thought police will be clamping down from now until forever, trying to silence any dissent.
On the surface, I like Palin. I believe she is honest, (mostly) conservative and will be a breath of fresh air. I hope she has some influence in the administration, but she is only one person. I also expect to see others in his administration that we know influence him—most of them liberals and moderates (Lieberman, Graham, Martinez, etc). I am reserving judgment on Palin until I hear more about her beliefs. She’s been falling into the global warming trap and I have yet to hear her positions on amnesty. As such, I’m not sure I would rally behind her for President (although she already looks to be a big improvement over McCain).
Just my 2 cents.
This guy makes a living by being “controversial”; it’s to be expected, I guess.
