How does one get experience in foreign affairs?
Bill Clinton, as a governor, had experience only in domestic affairs, not foreign affairs. His inexperience may have hurt him as he failed to understand the threats overseas that led to Sept. 11th.
Ronald Reagan, let’s be intellectually honest, also had no experience in foreign affairs in elective office before becoming president. But he clearly understood the Soviet threat and worked against it in office, even though he didn’t have that experience before becoming president.
Are we saying that you have to have served in Washington in order to have the proper foreign affairs experience, otherwise you shouldn’t be a candidate for president or vice-president? Exactly what are we saying?
