The Base Hearts Sarah Palin
FoxNews.com ^ | 8-29-08 | James Pinkerton

The Base will love Sarah Palin—the Republican base that is. Rush Limbaugh has been openly arguing for her on his show, and John McCain was evidently listening. But I think that she has great potential to win over swing voters in the middle, too.

She’s a governor, which is obviously an asset in governing. She’s pro-gun, and she is pro-life. And not just pro-life in practice: Her youngest child is a Down’s Syndrome baby. “Perfect in my eyes,” she said, clear as a bell. That’s what The Base wants to hear—she talks the talk, and then walks the walk.

And speaking of walking, did I mention that she is authentic hunter and outdoorswoman—she and her whole family?

And of course, she has a son who enlisted in the Army and is on his way to Iraq. That’s walking the walk, too.

She’s also something of a reformer: She took on the entrenched Republican hierarchs in Alaska, and beat them to get where she is now, governor of Alaska.

Speaking for myself, I think that Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, would have been the best choice for McCain. I think he would have made The Base happy, too, but he has had much more executive experience and is a proven campaigner—after all, he won the Iowa Caucuses earlier this year. McCain has many great attributes, but as President, he will need the steadiest of energetic executive hands when it comes to the management of the federal government and dealing with the 50 states. Something to think about, in particular, as Hurricane Gustav bears down on Louisiana.

But that’s all moot now. Palin is a strong choice for McCain. The Base loves her, and I expect that America will, too.

On the "Draft Sarah Palin" web site, a poster from a couple of weeks ago in August posted a comment that, if correct, may prove to be a plus regarding what the writer called, "Palin's debating skills," as follows:

"Her debating skills were shown to be masterful when she took the pants of her two opponents in the Alaska Governor's Primary Debate, which has already been posted on the web. Moreover, Palin is skilled at media, having formerly been a TV journalist."

Hmmmm.....a TV journalist and a good debater, and one who can tell the story of her lovely family and their newest baby.

The life issue suddenly cannot be cast off as casually as the Denver spectacle tried to cast it last night, and the trite old phrase, "a woman's right to choose" to destroy the life and liberty of an unborn child can be properly articulated by a woman who has made her own "choice."

"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them." - Thomas Jefferson

Anyone who doesn't vote for Palin is just a sexist and misogynist.

LOL. This is fun.

Yep, my wife and I both heart Palin; we just donated to McCain -- our first time ever donating to a national campaign.

Now PALIN is the example of the American version of Margaret Thatcher. She is the epitome of strength, not victimhood. Shrillery was an insult to women and how about the times the old hag broke down in tears during the campaign. Of course, being shameless as Demonrats are they had the audacity to claim her as Thatcher-like. Palin is going to put Shrillery to shame and show why Republican/conservative women are the true example. Great choice by McCain. Great choice for America. Now I’m actually enthused about the election.

Let’s hope the McCain camp doesn’t force her to sing out of the envirowacko song book.

From what I have read about her so far, it seems that no one can force her to do anything she does not want to do.

Not to worry Louisiana has a real governor now.

McCain to Obama, “This is chess, not checkers, son.”

Holy cow! This is strategic Machiavellian / sun szu genius! Does anyone realize how many ways Obama is in check?

1). Obama didn't choose change, he chose a DC insider, an old white guy. McCain chose an outsider.

2). Any argument directed at Palin’s “inexperience” only points the same criticism back at Obama.

3). Pro-choice vs Pro-life: above Obama’s pay grade; Palin is walking the walk.

4). Palin actually has more executive, managerial experience than Obama.

5). Son in the Army heading to Iraq negates the argument that she supports a war, but won't send her kids (McCain has a son in Iraq as well).

6). Any attempt to hit her regarding any scandals back in AK only open the door to slamming Obama for Rezko, Ayers and Wright.

7). Who has more practical perspective on drilling in ANWR?

8). And here's the kicker, if McCain wins and only serves one term. Palin would be an incumbent VP standing in Hillary's way, with 4 years’ experience behind her.

I won't say “checkmate”, but its definitely “check”.

Sarah Palin is a gun totin’, hockey playin’, life time member of the NRA that gets up at 3 o’clock in the morning to hunt moose with her father, hockey mother of five, wife of her high school sweetheart, a lifetime fisherman who’s been in the union all of his life. She’s a pro-life environmentalist wanting to drill holes all over Alaska to lower the price I pay for gasoline. Her eldest enlisted in the United States Army on September 11th last, and deploys to Iraq on September 11th in two weeks. And to top it off she just thanked Hillary Clinton for putting 18,000,000 cracks in the glass ceiling, and promised those women she’d finish breaking though it. And people ask if McCain made a good choice for VP?

Great summary!
