(CNN) – A leading House Democrat said Thursday John McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is a "risky" move that could ultimately prove disastrous to the Republican prospects in November.

Meanwhile, a top Senate Democrat said the pick is a "Hail Mary pass" and a "roll of the dice," in what is the initial reactions from McCain's rival party.

She is as inexperienced as is Obama. And no, that is NOT a good thing.

Clearly false. Palin has more executive experience in her little toe than Obama has ever had. Keep it real man.

This is McCains and Palins to win bigtime. And I believe that they can. I’m elated with the VP pick.

FWIW, I don't necessarily disagree with you. I love the Palin pick, but it is not without some very real risks.

I'm just enjoying the heck out of pointing out the tremendous hypocrisy in the Democrat party, especially as it pertains their view of women and their qualifications.

The dems are already spinning. What I find funny is that when they picked Biden WE were happy, we pick Palin and the the dems don’t seem happy, instead they are knocking her and already trying to smear her-—that is what makes me feel this was a fantastic, great pick. Obama is going down! Just wait until the Ayers stuff starts really coming out.

McCain’s pick was well thought out. His pick has many positives.

Holy Crap! That is one bizzare thread. If we can just ease them into the notion that it really doesn’t matter if you are a women or man but what you stand for, then the Constitution’s promise will be fulfilled. When womens rights are no longer synonymous with abortion but with fundamental natural rights, true equality will be born.

I never thought I’d be saying this again about a Republican ticket — but this one might be strong enough to turn California red.

True but consider what she's done with it: $1200 socialist give-away and a tax increase on industry that had Alaska Democrats wetting themselves with happiness. And that's in less than two years.

She may be a very attractive candidate but she’s no conservative.

You're full of beans.

McCain has just hammered Obama lately. Palin was the last nail in the coffin. She’s a middle class success story. She looks like and IS America. No one knows who Obama is except that he’s arrogant.

One of the many reasons that this was a brilliant pick by McCain (I still have trouble writing those words because I still can’t quite believe he had the stones to do it) is that it will boost his chances in key states where the race has been close: PA and OH (where there are many pro-life Catholic and Union voters). Also: FL (transplanted Catholics and Jews, too); and NC and WV (lots of hunters and sportsmen).

You are wrong, Sarah has far more experience than Obama.

Not only was she a mayor for several terms she beat the crap out of republican corrupt officials and forced them to resign, and stopping the bridge to nowhere in her spare time.

She has pushed the natural gas pipe line through, served 2 years as governor. That alone beats the crap out of the great organizers experience. Obama has zero experience running anything, this woman has about 8 years of running citys and a state.

How in the he** do you equate that with BHOs no experience what so ever? I do not count time on a senate(even if he had his full 3 years in)as equal experience to a governor, or even a mayor.

If McCain dies, hopefully he won't, during the term the country couldn't be in better hands. Don't believe me? I don't care. Go McCain/Palin!

she also just orchestrated a major socialist money give away ($1200 of government money per person to defray the cost of oil, over and above Alaska’s $2000 per person give away through the Permanent Fund) that was signed into law only a couple of weeks ago. And it’s being paid for (plus a lot more) by the largest tax increase by orders of magnitude on Alaska’s oil and gas industry in Alaska history

That's not true and amounts to slander.

The legislative session distributed that $1,200 to each Alaskan as return of a tax revenue surplus.
