I had originally thought that the stage was set to represent the Lincoln Memorial, since today is the anniversary of Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream, speech.

Now looking at the finished columns, I think it is to represent the colonnade at the White House, made famous by this photo of Ronald Reagan.
