It’s funny the way people pick and choose. I’d bet that many of Bob Barr’s critics are the same people who enthusiastically supported Joe Lieberman — who really is a liberal POS — except that he supported the war.

And if these people were honest — I know that’s asking a lot — they’d admit that they have as many, if not more, points of disagreement with the GOP than they do with Barr.

The way McCain was trashed on this site over the years for being as much or more of a traitor and a danger to conservatism as Lincoln Chafee, I am astonished to see members here embrace him as their only hope to win now. Classical conservatism will not disapear if McCain or Obama wins but its membership may be smaller. If either win it will be obvious to many conservatives that the bottom of the slippery slope is near. These days when I read many of the posts here rationalizing a vote for McCain, I am often reminded of an old story, told by Groucho Marx.

Groucho (to pretty lady at dinner): Would you sleep with me for $52 million?

Pretty lady (laughing): Of course!

Groucho (leering wildly): How about for $10?

Pretty lady: Mr. Marx, what do you take me for?

Groucho: We've already established what you are. Now we're just haggling over price.

Tis a pity.
