“The Allman Brothers” then and now are still my favorite band. They were what I would call a true Improvisational Jam Band that blended Rock, Jazz and Blues into a great sound that has really never been duplicated since then.
Have always felt that Duane Allman has never really gotten his due as master guitarist and Dicky Betts wasn't far behind.
I think their two best extended songs were “You Don't Love Me” and “Mountain Jam”. It really doesn't get any better than that if you like Southern Rock and still holds up today.

Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore was the first album I bought as a pre-teen back in the 70s. The first three minutes of "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed" is about the finest bit of live music ever put on acetate...IMO.

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION
The light of God surround you The love of God enfold you The power of God protect you The presence of God watch over you Wherever you are, God is, And all is well. Amen.
BLESS THIS HOUSE Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore No question about it ... Allman Bros, Live at the Fillmore East ... 2nd greatest live album ever recorded (behind The Who , Live at Leeds, which is the 1st greatest live album ;) ...
"Statesboro Blues" just grabs ya, and after that it just gets better and better ... "Memory of Elizabeth Reed", "Stormy Monday", "You Don't Love Me", "Done Somebody Wrong" ... it just goes on and on, and ALL of it is just great :)

Duane Allman was a smokin’ player. He would blow Dickie Betts off the stage in their call and response solos. Smoked Clapton on Layla. Too bad he died so young.
Favorite Souther Rock tune(s).....
Juke Joint Jump - Elvin Bishop.
Cabio Diablo - Charlie Daniels Band
Trouble in Paradise - Souther, Hillman, Fury Band.

Despite “Freebird” being my class song, I’d have to go with the Allman Brothers. Their instrumental work is wonderful. Lots of great music by all these artists, though. Southern rock is great.
