Mitt Romney suggested Tuesday that criticisms he leveled at John McCain during the GOP primaries would not block him from becoming the Republican nominee for vice president, arguing that he never questioned his one-time rival's readiness to be president the way the Democratic nominee for vice president questioned Barack Obama.
"The clips that they have of Joe Biden," said Romney, referring to a McCain attack ad, "are ones in which he questioned Obama's readiness to be president.
"I didn't say that he was not qualified to become president," said Romney, referring to his criticism of McCain. "Republicans in our debates pointed out differences on issues and relative capacity. That's very different from saying that he is not qualified to be president."
The former Massachusetts governor downplayed the significance of his primary clashes with McCain following a Christian Science Monitor lunch with reporters. Romney was in Denver, Colo., as part of a broader Republican effort to frame Obama as "A Mile High and an Inch Deep."

But can we all agree that what McCain said about Romney is worse than what Biden said?
"Never get into a wrestling match with a pig. You both get dirty - and the pig likes it." McCain on Romney, the day before the NH primary.
Ping
Ouch.
That is the whole basis of Romney support on FR it seems..
_____ is more liberal than Mitt
_____ has more political baggage than Mitt
_____ does not have as good hair as Mitt
etc.
Pretty weak in my book.
Is McCain smart enough to kick this sleazy, liberal, dishonest used car salesman to the curb on Friday ? We shall see.
"Biden (fill in the blank _____________ )Are Worse Than Mine"
The whole election is weak. Hold your dang nose and vote already!
Right. Romney is a liberal and not a conservative. Relatively speaking.
I don’t dislike the man. I dislike his constantly “evolving” positions on OUR core beliefs.
I think he would be an asset in the Senate, honing his Conservatism. Then, he can better serve our Country as a possible POTUS next time around.
Right now, we need a real Conservative to fall back on. Not a trainee.
well,at least biden makes me laugh...
I think I’ll wait till November...but yeah.
He'll lose some conservatives, but they equal minus one. They won't go to Obama.
If he picks a real conservative, he'll lose moderates, but they each equal minus two, because they will vote for Obama.
So he would have to lose twice as many conservatives with a Romney pick than he would moderates with a real conservative pick.
Crunch the numbers. Conservatives are screwed.
We have sunk to quoting toe suckers? Sad.
The Senate would be good for Romney. Just like I’d love to see Rudy run for governor of NY.
However, neither belongs anywhere near the Oval Office.
Willard is sucking toes now? Even I didn’t think he’d sink that low. Well, at least Dick Morris will have someone to commiserate with.
The McCain campaign would love the Democrats to run ads showing the things Romney said about McCain, accusing him of not being a “conservative”. It would very much go against the Democrats’ message that McCain=Bush. In fact, it would totally destroy it.
McCain already has the conservative vote, and Romney would help further consolidate it.
All the undecideds are moderates, independents, fence-sitters. Hearing McCain’s own VP hammering him for not being an orthodox Republican would only move them closer to McCain.
Dick Morris, the toesucker for Huck, has fuzzy math:
Rudy G. spent a ton of money and got ... ZIPPO.
Fred T. and Ron Paul had at least $10 million spent, but didnt get many delegates for their efforts.
Romney spent a ton of money and got more votes than any GOP primary candidate who didnt win the nomination, and got almost 300 delegates.
