"“The only section that has proven liberal Democratic is the eastern panhandle which is fast becoming a suburb of Washington, D.C.”

"Is this author nuts? The Eastern Panhandle of WV is so “liberal Democratic” that it gave well over 60% of its vote to George W. Bush."

You can ping the author, she's a FReeper. Miss Zito, the Eastern Panhandle is NOT liberal Democrat.

Miss Zito, I apologize for my brusque remarks, but I get in a bad mood whenever I hear people claim that exurban areas in our largest metro areas are “trending Democrat” as population grows (something that liberals love to spout off about), when electoral results prove it’s quite the opposite. I have a similar reaction when people blame Massachusetts “expats” for New Hampshire swinging from Bush to Kerry between 2000 and 2004 when the facts show that the counties bordering Massachusetts voted more Republican (people moving from Massachusetts to New Hampshire do so largely because they didn’t want to live in a liberal state, and for the most part they vote Republican), while it was the counties bordering Vermont (where hippies moved to the NH side) that swung hard to the Democrats. Exurban areas are full of young families with children, and those voters do not support liberal Democrats.
